I really like co-op RPGs, particularly dungeon crawly types. Games like Diablo 3, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom and Borderlands.

But many people ruin such games...ironically by trying to be nice. I appreciate the intent, but no I dont want the best weapon at level 1, no I dont want you to do everything for me and boost me to max level. I want to actually play the game myself...but not alone.

That runs into the weird disconnect between player bases. Some people play to enjoy the lvl 1 - max experience and barely look at it again. Others feel the game only begins once youre at a certain end game ready viability and think they're expediting the boring bits for you. Its weird how at odds the games can be at with themselves.

This why I rarely do multiplayer anymore. My time is more limited now, so I only go for games I know that I am going to have fun with or play.

Yeah OP, I feel ya. Winning a round of the 'standard' version of this brawl proved to be a lot more difficult than it should've been.

I didn't matter which hero I picked, I always seemed to get a Rein that didn't shield, a Mercy who didn't heal/rez, a Torb who didn't throw out armor packs, and/or a Tracer who isn't able to kill anything and keeps dying all the time.

If anything, this game mode has confirmed my hypothesis that the matchmaker is playing some sort of ongoing cruel joke on me, and is deliberately putting me in matches with garbage teammates. I've suspected so for a while.

You have to find some good people to play with, otherwise your experience is at the mercy of whichever random douchenozzles the matchmaking system pairs you up with.
What you did there... I see it.

I know this question was already answered, but there are a lot of people out in the gaming community that are collectors: Who love to have those rare acknowledgements and those rare skins. That's what makes multiplayer achievements so sucky for some. What if you got into a game when the multiplayer aspect died? I shudder to think about things like Mass Effect 3 who's actual ENDING can be affected by multiplayer.
That's fair. They wouldn't be so prominent if they weren't so successful i would imagine. Once somebody creates a thing that can be obtainable and especially difficult to obtain, there will be people wanting to obtain it.

To me this is basically every game. Haven't found one I thought was improved with other players. If I could play an MMORPG on a completely dead server, that'd be awesome!
Other players always ruin games.
The problem for MMORPGs then is content meant for parties. Can actually do a pretty decent job of ignoring everyone in an MMORPG until endgame content sometimes
Legitimate. And if people can wrangle together parties of people the know and like to do the post-game, more power to them.
I was never interested in dungeons, raids or any of that nonsense. I played WOW until I got to the lvl cap at the time, I think it was 60 or 65 without ever joining a guild and doing party missions very very infrequently.

Slight update... finally popped the cheevo, and decided to try the event on hard...

Nearly every reinhardt player I encounter will not use their shield and/or keep making suicide charges taking them miles away.

Lost one run on the first hack because the tracer got downed miles away from the hack area.

The one time mercy was already picked, she was way more interested in blasting than healing.

About the only other players that seem to understand staying by the objective and not being overly aggressive are the Torbjorns.

Halo Wars.

starting a 3v3 match only for someone to decide to immediately drop out of the game as soon as the game starts, those types of people give me the shits.

Usually those kinds of games fall somewhere under the lines of cooperative gameplay, which are typically best with friends or a small+friendly community. Teamwork in the face of challenging odds can be a whole lot more fun than doing it alone, at least so long as the game's actually designed to encourage cooperation, in a fun and engaging manner.

I became very sour to many OMP games thanks to shitty brats with even shittier parents.

Everquest 2 was the last OMP I played a lot of thanks to said community.

Don't get me wrong, you CAN find some solid groups out there.
But there's just too much toxic twats for me to risk it.

Basically any multiplayer game. Mention any and you'll hear all about how exploits are abused to no end, or a particular item can be used in an irritating or unfair way. It's why I've not bought any multiplayer-only games.

I've had a bit of the opposite problem lately when I've gone Rein. I try to keep my teammates behind my shield, but they go running off and die instead. They also seem to be allergic to my armor packs when I play Toblerone; I sometimes have to throw it directly at them to ensure they pick it up.

Honestly?

I think you guys are expecting too much of randoms. If you really want a coordinated effort, you don't play with someone you just met 5 mins ago. You're going to have to bring the friends and wreck house. Otherwise, be selfish and/or stick to FFA/DM.

Yeah, the one time I got locked into rein, the mercy was way more into blasting than healing, and the tracer was borderline suicidal.

All I expect is basic human decency. I don't expect them to be good players, just to try their best and not be abusive assholes, cheats, or griefers. Sadly, that's more than the average online gamer can manage. Online gaming communities almost universally suck because the developers and publishers don't see value in actually policing the communities they create around their games, and inevitably what happens is that the trolls and griefers drive all the decent people away and turn the game into a cesspool of negativity, poor sportsmanship, and cheating.
