Dear Escapist,
I really messed up with this one girl I'm really into! My best friend (let's call him A) told me how a bunch of girls were talking shit behind my back! They were friends with this girl (Let's call her L). They were basicly saying what an ass I am for being mean to certain people (whom I hate). I talked to L about it later and she was telling me how I could be nicer... which I misunderstood to her saying "you should change". I don't have a lot of principles, but I will NEVER change for ANYBODY except me! I flew off the fucking handle, really getting upset at her. Turns out she didn't mean it like that, and she was having a bad time anyway, since most of her friends were leaving her for other people. She thought I was also trying to get rid of her... now I feel really bad...
Is there a way to fix this? Was I being a jerk?
Sir i fear even groveling may not fix something that bad. All i can say is expliain it and beg her forgivness.

If shes a nerd (no offense)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iob2_8eyMK8&feature=related this may help

Kinda remindes me of when Alan Wake gets pissed cause his wife wants him do do his job.

I'd continue proclaiming "I'LL NEVER CHANGE!", I'm going to keep leaving the toilet seat up and everything.

Admit that you were wrong, and explain your way of thinking in the situation. Admitting your wrong goes a long way in something like this. You took things the wrong way and there was clearly a misunderstanding in what you were both saying.

Say you were acting like an ass and should have never flew off the handle, then say "Can you forgive me? If not its understandable" Its multiplicative I know but always works for me when I scew up.

just stop talking crap about whoever the fight was over. Life is to short to spend energy hating some pud. As for the apology you could say sorry bout that blew my top a bit dont need to make a big deal or plan a speech.

My advice

Don't beat yourself up over it. Shit happens. If it was just a little misunderstanding then you should be able to patch things up no problem. Just try not to repeat the mistakes that got you here in the first place.

That's nothing. This one time I accidentally choked my young wife to death.

She was trying to talk me out of my newly acquired religious beliefs (telling me that I've changed, and she's scared of what I've become, etc) when I see the guy I used to work with get out of her vehicle! Of course, the only thought in my head is that she's been cheating on me with him, and I get in a fight with the guy. She tried telling me she didn't know he was in there, and that he snuck in or something, but I was sick of listening to her lies, so I choked her with one hand, but I didn't touch her, I swear! Anyway, I was pretty confident I could beat my old partner, but I guess I got too cocky and lost the use of my arms and legs. If it wasn't for my new boss, I'd be a burnt out corpse by now.

Bad news, though. Just as I woke up from major reconstructive surgery, my boss told me my wife died during childbirth. I was very upset. I joined this new religion just so I could keep her safe, but now...

Enough reminiscing for me. I've got this huge construction project I need to finish, and some dirty little thief stole the blueprints for it.

That most people refuse to change for others, doesn't mean they can't learn new ways to understand and accept the opinion of others without wrongly twisting their opinions into the negative facts you think they are.
Don't try to think for someone else or you'll be on a one-way trip to "self-fulfilling-prophecy-land".

So in short: You overreacted for sure; with an immature response.

And the fact that you want a relationship for the sake of sex won't get you anywhere soon, unless you tell that as the truth.
As any relationship, be it based on love or lust, won't last when built on lies.

Yes, you were a jerk. You screamed at a woman because she politely asked, once, for you to act differently. Not right, man, no matter how mad you are.

My thought: Drop some money, girls love it.

Who the hell cares? If she knows you and you really aren't a jerk than she shouldn't have accused you for doing so! And if you are a jerk, then it is in your nature to yell at people! So either way your reaction was natural.
