The Sad Tale Of The Brothers Grossbart by Jesse Bullington is an excellent read, a little "vulgar" but excellent. His second book is also very good.
this may not fit your genre choices, but I really like the Hitchhikers Guide seriesGizmo1990 said:Hello everybody. i just finished college and I bored out of my mind!! I am set for games but I really need a book/books to read. Among my favourites are The Dresden files (have all 12 and I know about the 13th in a month) which is about a moden day wizard fighting evil, Codex Alera which is a bit like lord of the rings, Night Angle trillogy is a fantasy type book.
So any suggestions you might have would really help me out. Thanks in advance.
Oh! This, a thousand times, this. Good Omens is so hilarious it's almost...unholy.SouthpawFencer said:"Good Omens", by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman: A demon and an angel who have been on Earth since the dawn of mankind discover that the Endtimes are about to begin. Neither of them is particularly eager for this, having made the mistake of starting to actually LIKE humans.
The books I recommended in a similar thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.290000-Reccomend-some-books#11500169
Amazing books, they really are. Incidentally, the saga of Larten Crepsley has been started if you didn't know Phelpsing. I've only read the first one, second one is out, third one on it's way in October. He also wrote a stand alone called The Thin Executioner which was pretty good.Im Phelpsing It said:If you've got some time (and loose money) I absolutely recommend the Cirque du Freak series and the Demonata series, both written by Darren Shan. CdF is 12 books long, and Demonata is 10, so you definitely have to make an investment to read them, but they're absolutely worth it to the end.
Totally agree with you both. It's rather crushing in hopes and such but you really get to love the main characters, particularly a certain inquisitorMackheath said:This. And I wouldn't call it crushingly depressing; just horribly realistic and ironic. Its still the best modern fantasy series I've read.DrWilhelm said:The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, but I warn you that the end of the series is just crushingly depressing.
