I was gonna say Batman Arkham Asylum is on sale for $7.50 on steam, but even if it isn't on sale it's still awesome on PS3.
This, a million times this

If you haven't played Batman yet, fix that. Now.

Splatterhouse. Its a nice gorey little beat um up that most people passed on because of some polish issues. Its not the greatest game out there but it is a great way to unwind. Just try to get it cheap if you can.

Alice: Madness Returns. It's a 3D Platformer mainly. I love it.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is more focused on story

You can make a character in Fallout: New Vegas who focuses more on social skills (Science, Speech, Medicine, etc) and it's just as fun as a combat-focused character. Of course, fighting is inevitable a lot of times.

You could play Metal Gear Solid 4 and opt for the pure stealth approach. You'll have to go through boss fights, but I'm pretty sure you can (depending on your sneaking skills) go through the rest of the game without fighting.

LA Noire is decidedly not combat focused. It's all about your detective work.

Magic the Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012.

As sad and Nerdy as that sounds it provided me a nice alternative when I was burnt out on shooters and actually made me think about some of my next moves and gamble a bit, I found it a lot of fun.

I think you can get that for PS3?

I would jump on the Batman train, but you said you'd prefer something that isn't combat focused. Arkham Asylum is a good mix of stealth and action, but that's a combat focus right there.

The only things I can really think of that fit the bill are racing games. Gran Turismo for physics and variety, DiRT or GRID for immersion, MotorStorm Pacific Rift (or Apocalypse I imagine, haven't checked it out yet) for crazy, arcade-y fun.

That's only if you're willing to put up with games for windows live.

I know you said ps3, but if you have a semi-decent pc, you might enjoy Frozen Synapse. It's a hybrid RTS/TBS game that is conceptually unique. Very cool cyberpunk aesthetic, and a game that will really challenge you. It's an indie title that has received excellent reviews, and I highly recommend it to anyone yearning for something completely different.

God Hand for the PS2. Yes, it's old-school. Yes, tracking it down is work. But it is a game that easily worth five times what you pay for it. It is also one of the hardest games on a console, and you will probably die several times in the first section of the first level. And you will enjoy every minute of it.

I'd go for Sam and Max. Pure light-hearted amusement. I believe all three seasons are on PS3. If not, just get Devil's Playhouse. It's five different episodes, all telling a continuing story. Though there's no combat, there are a lot of puzzles. I'm not sure how well the controls work on PS3, but they're probably worth it. Or you could NOT play a Sam and Max game, and live an incomplete, depressing life always wondering 'what if I listened to Sinoda, and played one of the funniest games ever?'

I would try out God of War III if you haven't played it. I didn't know anything about the God of War series when I got it as a gift, and it was awesome.

Well, since you mention racers...

Burnout Paradise is an excellent choice for racing. It features a sandboxed-style goal focused racing that allows you to progress through the game by unlocking vehicles with missions that range from stunt driving to pursuits. Really good fun, but if you feel lonely, it also has online multiplayer where you can connect to other people at whim, no friends required.

If that doesn't suit your taste...

The Beyond Good and Evil HD was released for PSN not too long ago. It only cost chump change and it's a classic.
