I've always liked Isjandar as a "fictional" name. Sounds very Icelandic,

Is it set in modern times? Medieval times? Ancient times? A fantasy setting? The future? Not to mention where it's set?
Context is very important. We can't make a decent decision without it, yeah?
I was thinking the name Cain, though it may be a litle too close to Gabriel as a religious thing for you to go for. Plus I stole the name myself from my own work, where I have a character called Cain who's a demon and the second-in-command/hired thug/personal assassin of the Big Bad, another demon called Gabriel. Who is hunting down his former friend/partner Luna, another demon, who stumbled on a conspiracy. Think The Dresden Files meets Spooks meets fairy tales meets every single mythology from the Greeks to the Japanese Shinto religion...
Anyway, that's all I can think of. Try looking up Celtic mythology for some really good ones. There are some amazingly awesome names for amazingly awesome characters in Irish and Welsh mythology, and you may find some inspiration for plot or other characters there too. Much better than the Greeks or Romans, anyway, though not sure if it's quite as good as Norse mythology. Anyway, Irish names are great anyway, it's such a beautiful language, and the accent is sex to the ears. My main character in my story is Irish, a girl called Niamh, which means 'bright' in Irish. So if you're still stuck, just try taking words that describe your character and translating them into other languages, and see what sounds good as a name .

Here's a good way of doing this, it's what I do for D&D character names. Take a word relating to your character (you would choose something like "holy" or something to that effect). Open Yahoo Babel Fish and put it in. Translate it to any readable language you can until you get something resembling a name. It usually works pretty well. I happen to get pretty good results from Dutch.
It's hard to name a character you know almost nothing about. If he is a badass macho-angel the name Fluffy probably wouldn't work very well. I suppose you could name him Maxwell, or Saint, or something, but it has to fit the character, and I wouldn't know what fits said character.
