The Broken Sword series is quite fun, and really old now. It's point and click adventure games, if you like that sort of thing.

The Thief trilogy is pretty old and absolutely brilliant. You should be able to run pretty much any Source game reasonably well on that hardware, so you could try out some HL2 or TF2.

I'd recommend X-Com: UFO Defense. In fact, it's so old you'll need Dos Box to run it :p

Starcraft is a fantastic RTS that can be easily run.
Also, KotOR 1 and 2 can both be run pretty easily.

Ha, I was suspecting you meant games like System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament etc. That computer is better than mine!

You could easily handle most games, bar Crysis-esque compkillers.

Why do people recommend UFO defense? What about X-com Apocalypse? :( Try Warlords Battlecry series for rts, Star control 2 for sure also.

Freelancer can be run on practically any computer that runs XP (haven't tried vista or 7). Fun game with a relatively lengthy campaign in comparison to most out right now.

I've been playing Deus Ex recently, it's pretty good, never had the chance to play it before, and your computer should be fine with it. If your in the mood for a Point and Click, the Sam and Max series of games are both hilarious and fun! Hope their good suggestions :)

RTS/Turn-based strategy - Medieval II: Total War ; Starcraft ; Plants vs Zombies

RPG - ES4: Oblivion (I think your PC can take it)

FPS - TF2

MMORPG - Metin2

All of these are absolutely necessary. As to the Thief series, it is difficult to run dark project and metal age on any system made after 407 A.D. so good luck with that endeavor. Deadly Shadows only runs on desktops so if you're system is a laptop, you're sol. Otherwise, they are all great games. Rune, if you can find it, is fucking awesome as well. Oh, and if you're into any kind of flight sims or space sims, Descent: Freespace and its sequel are pretty much the best you can buy. Absolutely epic games.

I would highly recommend Companions of Xanth, point and click adventure game. You have to have a great understanding of puns in order to really "get" the game. But I was introduced to it by my father when I was about ten, and now I have got most of the books, I love them ^^

I've been playing the origional fallout games I bought of steam recently, and they've given me hours of fun! I was honestly surprised how well they hold up.
