Don't know if these have already been suggested but The Mortal Engines Series by Phillip Reeve or The Artemis Fowl Series by Eoin Colfer. These are two of my favourite series...oh and Harry Potter but I'm sure you've heard enough about them to read/make a decision not to read by now

If it hasn't already been said, I'd recommend Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, the book is way better than the movie because it adds more detail, and isn't too boring.

Anything by Richard Laymon. Beast House is a good place to start.
Read this book. Still a bit freaked out by some of it.

Good horror but not amazing. I'm not sure it is meant to be considered a masterpiece - but that makes it amazing in it's own way.

I would also recommend reading any Graham Masterton if you want some good Horror.

But if not, I love Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I refuse to watch the film adaptations since a lot of the genius of Pratchett's work is based on his play on words - which I doubt comes across on the screen.

Yeah, if you're into getting raped by a giant monster...
(Seriously, that book is pretty entertaining.)

I don't read a lot of books, but anything by Terry Pratchett is sure to give you your money's worth.

The Night's Dawn, it's a trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton

Gotta warn you, it's not for the stupid.
It takes someone who can read and comprehend to get through it.

I would recommend buying an anthology of short stories in a genre you like. It's a great way to find new authors and find stories with unorthodox storytelling. I can easily say that some of my best book purchases have been literary magazines (loaded with new authors and odd stories) and anthologies.

It does, doesn't it? Richard Laymon isn't as well known as I would like him to be, and most of his books are amazing. After Midnight is also a good one. Full of, "Don't go in there!" moments that make you want to throw the book across the room in anger at the woman's stupidity.

Try something from the Black Library, the Warhammer 40,000 books make a nice change.
Especially the Ciaphas Cain books.
Good to see someone else liking the Black Library. (Which apparently really is a library in the universe!)

Try Starship Troopers. Fantastic book and I just got it out again! It's about Space Marines fighting giant space-spiders. Except this one arguably gave it a nice kick start.

I'm getting very bored with reading girly books that are all the same... same beginning, same ending and same middle!!!

Can anyone suggest a good book that won't bore me to sleep???
Pendragon Series. Personally I like it better than the Harry Potter Series.

If you like fantasy and humour, give Yahtzee's Mogworld a go, it's hilarious and a really good read :)
