I need a new Space RTS

Space Invasion, a free, browser based game is sadly closing it's servers at the end of this month.

I need suggestions for a new real time space strategy game, preferably completely free, with the features i've gotten used to from the indie game.

If anyone knows a few i'd be grateful.

Shattered Galaxy.

http://www.sgalaxy.com/

It's "free" and its a space RTS.

Or if you don't mind shelling out about 20$ or so you could do a whole lot worse then Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity

Dawn of war 2 is the best one IMO but I also have to give honorable mentions for starcraft, and starcraft 2

I thought Starcraft and DoW were space-themed RTSes, not Space RTSes?

Letsee, there's Sins of course. Sword of the Stars has some RTS elements, and Star Ruler is full rts. Both on Steam for about $20.

I've been getting my fill from Master of Orion 2, but that's TBS. Frankly, I'm itching for more of a space privateer game which seems far more rare.

I also recommend Sins of a Solar Empire, one of the best strategy games ever.

I recently bought X3: Terran Conflict, which is... partially RTS; I mean it's real time, and it's certainly a strategic game, but it's less a "build buildings & units, attack people" game, and more a - what did Wikipedia describe it as? - "space trading and combat simulator". Very big, very complex.

Sounds like Sins is more what you're looking for though.

But they both cost money; a space strategy game I'm playing right now is Ogame, a "text-based, resource-management and space-war themed massively multiplayer online browser game". That's totally free, with payment options that are actually reasonable. Give it a look.

Edit: Hah, I just looked up SpaceInvasion on Wikipedia, and it sounds like exactly the same game as Ogame. So you probably already know about it. If not, it's perfect.

Well, I think the Empire at War servers are still up, older game, but I think you can buy both for 20 or 30. The space battles are pretty neat, though the land battles aren't my cup of tea. Besides, it makes you feel awesome to bring in 4 ISD's swarming with TIE's to own the enemy base! Oh, and for the campaign you can get SSD Executer, which is fucking huge.

Supreme commander isn't awful, but it's set on planets. Space themed though!

This Sins of a Solar empire looks interesting though... I might look at it.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident

Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity

Homeworld 2

--- Sword of the Stars (Haven't played that)

--- X3 (I've played this but... I never could get anywhere in it)

~~~~
Dawn of War II and Supreme Commander are not tactical fleet simulators nor space rts's.
^ StarCraft, StarCraft: Brood War, and StarCraft II are also not space rts's.
~~~

Also, for Sins of a Solar Empire, you better have a good computer.

I'm having quite a lot of fun with Space Pirates And Zombies [http://store.steampowered.com/app/107200/]

Although not TRULY a RTS it does have elements from it.

There is only Homeworld. Homeworld 2 at a pinch I suppose. If you haven't played Homeworld you haven't played a space RTS.

Star Trek Armada II.

Not free, older, and not idea where you can buy it now. But a pretty sweet space RTS, more so if you're a Trek fan. AI for opponents is complete crap though.
