Homeworld looks pretty cool, especially for me as I have a small netbook which cannot handle big games. However, I can't find a digital download service for it and my computer doesn't have a CD drive.
I have a demo of Star Trek Armada 2 on my computer, but I can't find the full game for that either.

Homeworld's not free, but it's cheap, and awesome. Also it's actually in space, not just another planet.
I tried Sins of A Solar Empire but the game felt kinda boring to me.
I am starting to feel like i was playing it wrong cuz i love space RTS (Homeworld is in my top 10)
What bothered me the most was the complete lack of a plot.

I've been meaning to look up a lot of these games in recent months.
Anyone know any like Freelancer while we're at it? Loved that game but the space shooter seems like a dead genre.

I started playing Homeworld for the first time a couple of days ago. My god, it's incredible. All of those claims I'd heard of it having some of the best storytelling in a game were not exaggerated at all.
Ok, so:
Space RTS: Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm, and Homeworld 2 are by far my favorites. They are 3d movement in space, multiple game options, and a large variety of ships to choose from
As for a game like freelancer(one of my favorite space games), The closest I've found is Battlestar Gallactica Online.
It is Free 2 Play, 3d, browser based, the only downside is that you can't trade between systems. other than that most of the controls are the same as freelancer. good combat system, mine roids just like in freelancer.
