I had never played a FPS before Halo:Reach but the campaign really drew me in. I am more of a RPG person. I really wasn't expecting to like it AT ALL but well, now I'm a bit of a Halo fangirl. In addition to the Campaign, multiplayer and firefight are also very entertaining. And the music is really good. So, yeah, buy Halo.

I've played Black Ops. Get Halo Reach.

It should have enough features to keep you going for a long time.
Considering your abundance of friendly friends, invite people over for 2 player split screen co-op.
A nicely varied set of multiplayer matchtypes (with vehicles).
Forge: it's like a "lite" version of minecraft.
Need Nazi Zombies? Play Firefight. It has more varied gameplay, too.

One last thing: In a few of my local game stores, Reach is about a third of the price of Black ops. That might just be here, though.

If you want a SHOOTER, get something that's on computer, like Team Fortress 2, or Painkiller, or possibly get Monday Night Combat on your Xbox

If you want some generic game that's been the same for the past 8 years that's more hype then fun, then go ahead and buy Blops/Halo

They're okay I guess, but no where NEAR as good as their price claims they are

I will say that Reach has more appeal but Blops, well be prepared for a crappy frag-fest where the better players get cheaper and cheaper abilities making it horribly unblanced... Zombie mode is a blast though

as for Reach, eeh it has variety that's about it, could have done much MUCH better... tired of hearing about the jetpacks though, no one uses them and the few who do have no idea how... considering I've been playing Tribes Vengeance sense Halo 2, everyone thinks I play Reach too much from my jetpack skills... despite that I never play it, I just played they game they took the jetpack mechanic from about 4 years before reach came out

and yes I get called a fanboy for saying that (stupid no-life trolls that do nothing but play Reach and insult anyone that says they're game is unoriginal... got the same response when I said the aliens from Halo looked a heck of a lot like the ones in StarCraft)

Either way to put it in short

If you're really dead set on either Halo or Blops and NOTHING ELSE

I would suggest getting Reach for combat
Or blops for Co-op (zombie mode)

but again entirely what you like best, they're both the same game that they've been anyways

I own a PS3 and black ops. The question you need to ask your self is really this do I want zombies or forge mode, because you going to have a blast with either games multiplayer. The new forge mode in Halo reach is very good from the time I have spent with it at my friends. The zombie mode in Black ops is also very fun. Truthfully if I were in your position I would go with Reach, but that is only because I love making custom maps. Also it is a more split screen friendly game, as in if you have the TV and 3 friend it is easier to have fun with halo reach then black ops.

If you want something realistic, get COD. If you want something fun, get Halo.

For me it's Halo hands down.

I found the combat in Metro incredible. The enemies didn't always seem as aware as you'd expect, but I'm guessing that's because you expect superhuman enemies often. It was really great combat for me.

If you're going to play Call of Duty, play CoD4. Black Ops is so bad I think it gave me cancer.

I've heard good things about Reach, but honestly I found the demo pretty underwhelming.

Both games are royally awful. Do yourself a favor, and track "Unreal II the Awakening" down. Think halo, only good and with relate-able characters and a proper story. And it's quite old, so it won't cost you more then a few bucks.
Oh man, for real? Every time I think about playing that game I think of this:

I know it's satirical and whatnot, but I really do agree with much of it.
How is someone on the internet pretending to be Yahtzee, only with all the wit and funny removed, going to diminish the second best single player fps experience out there?

Reach is a lot of fantastic gameplay, black ops seems like a lot of the same MW and MW2 stuff. Zombies is fun, but reach has a huge variety making it more fun. Also, a fantastic shooter is Bioshock. No MP, but its fairly cheap and a great game.

Are those your only two options?
I personally would go for Team Fortress 2, but only on computer (for the updates).

Between the two, I prefer CoD, but it's probably too similar to Bad Company 2 to be of any real difference to you.

That was written in 2003, oldest ZP videos on this site are from 2007.
I should clarify that I don't think it's an awful game, I'm just surprised to see it recommended after all this time because I haven't heard anybody mention it in so long.
I did find it highly forgettable, and the cast of characters were pretty goofy (over the top boob captain). But opinions are opinions!

I've got both and if you want to pick one I'd go with Reach.

CoD is all about the multiplayer and while Halo is MOSTLY about the multiplayer there's still enough to keep you busy even in times where you don't feel like firing up Xbox LIVE.

IMO the campaign in Reach is better (and longer) and Firefight is more fun than Zombies for me. Plus good luck in Zombies by yourself. If you ask me Zombies is either boring or frustrating when you're alone. Plus firefight has more variety because of all the different species of the Covenant.

And the stability and technicals of Bungie games have always been top notch. The netcoding in Reach is the best I've seen out of any game when it comes to in-game lag. The one thing I'd give CoD's multiplayer over Halo's is the ability to jump into a game with very relative ease. Though you could be thrown into a game where the other team is up by 30 kills and have all different kinds of killstreaks up you can just quit back and retry.

Halo's games are about the quality of each individual game and can get ruined a bit easier by selfish pricks quitting out when they're not doing well. While in CoD one guy quitting usually isn't that big of an issue. Especially since they can get replaced.

I'd go with Halo: Reach, mostly because I haven't played Black Ops as of yet, but Halo has so many modes you can play besides single player, which is great in itself. You've got firefight, forge, multiplayer, and so many incarnations of firefight you can't imagine. So, my votes for Reach

Halo, it has a better campaign and storyline than Black Ops, better multiplayer, better game modes. Not to mention forge and theatre mode! Sure there's not many changes, but at least Bungie improve on what they have instead of keeping things exactly the same each game, and CoD is broken, first noticed this in MW2 when I went behind a bulletproof wall, and got killed. Because on the enemy's screen I wasn't behind that wall. Bullshit!

Weird, because I actually play Black Ops more than Reach. The above points are all true though.

No!! Don't buy Halo! They will infect you with the fanboy virus! Oh, wait... It's the same with CoD. Both are "meh.." imo.

Get Reach but be careful. I have been afraid to play it lately because of how it sucks you in what with those challenges.
