Seriously, get TimeSplitters 3: Future Perfect it's completely amazing.
Here's why:
150 playable characters
Dozens of guns unique in their mechanical functions
Powerful mapmaker capable of creating multiple-objective-based story missions.
Silly but generally cool storyline
Huge variety in multiplayer modes
Camping is not a viable option due to characters' relatively high speed.
Time travel allows for interesting setting changes
The ability to play as a hovering whale with a top hat that uses other fish to fire weapons:

Well I'm a huge fan of the halo franchise and I don't have Black Ops Because I would prefer Halo anytime. Halo is a GREAT game it might not be as fast paced as Black Ops but the it has a way more compelling story, setting and I might even go as far as to say better gameplay. It has more options to chose from such as forge world and firefight. Halo reach is by far the best of all the Halo games since it has evolved so much from halo 3, not only in graphics but in weaponry, gameplay and equipment too.Black Ops has Barely evolved from COD4 gaining only new weaponry and killstreak rewards. So i stick by my opinion that COD4 and MW2 are both better that Black Ops if you do want a COD game. But, I recommend Halo:Reach as it has Great Story,Great Multiplayer gametypes such as Forge World and Firefight ^^

Reach is a whole helluvalota fun playing with friends, and the campaign is more interesting, but BlOps' multiplayer might be better. Depends on your taste. But then again, BlOps has no Forge mode, which I've spent hours at a time in.

EDIT: Just realized this is over a month old and bumped. I'm assuming OP already made up his mind a long time ago. Oh well, maybe this'll help someone else out.

Welcome, and just a little tip, necroing topics is usually not appreciated. I've done it before though, and I bet so has nearly everyone. Just a part of the new user cycle.

Having played the singleplayer and local multiplayer (splitscreen) of both with my brother on his 360, I would definitely have to say Halo: Reach. While Black Ops has a decent (but short) campaign, I found Reach's longer and more enjoyable. The ability to play it on co-op is really good too. As for the multiplayer (offline, in any case), again, I definitely enjoyed Reach more than I did Black Ops, both in standard games and each games "gimmick" mode (Firefight/Forge and Zombies).

I personally wouldn't call either a truely great game, but Reach is at least a solidly enjoyable one, while Black Ops kept me entertained only long enough for me to complete its disappointingly short campaign.

Edit: And oh, this is a necro. Didn't realise.

Hey guys.
I'm sorry if I ask for so many recommendations, but I really hate spending too much money on a game I won't play all that much, so I like to hear opinions from all around.
Gamefly. It's like netflix, but with games. So you can play both. Sure it means only a limited time, if any, playing online with other people, but the way most online shooters go, that's probably a good thing.

In any case, I haven't played Black ops or Reach, but I'd say the safe bet is whichever doesn't allow quick-scoping. *cough*Modern Warfare*cough*

..this thread is, like, a month old. I got Halo. Thanks for the concern, though. I had Gamefly, but I canceled, because it was expensive, and it took a long time for the games to get to me.

Well,

Call of Duty: Black Ops suprised me. I didn't expect it to be that good, but it has an epic single player campaign, more story than i've seen in any other CoD game(perhaps a tad too much), a TON (and I mean a TON!) of edge of your seat moments, an EXTREMLY popular Multiplayer mode, and a Zombie mode that in my opinion, never gets old.

It's very easy it get into, and you'll find yourself playing it daily. If that's a pro or a con really depends on you. It does have some graphic moments, but it really isn't that violent.

Halo: Reach, on the other hand, is harder to follow if you haven't played that much Halo before. You'll ask yourself, "What's going on?" "Who are they?" "Where am I?" alot, as I remember I did the same thing when I played Halo 3. It isn't as violent as CoD: Black Ops,and it actually sort of gives a away the ending....right after you push start. It also, from my experience, doesn't have as large of a Multiplayer community as CoD, but it's a fun game nontheless.
