Senor gif is a goood place for animated avatars but you'll need to resize the gifs for it to work.
Its where i got my current avatar (though some guys here resized it for me). God bless you trumpet playing walrus.

Go with something that reflects your interest's in some way. I suggest you go with horror movie characters but that's just me.
