I'm going to add Mass Effect. Also, if you hop in the old time machine and find of a copy of Paper Mario 1 or 2, buy it. Also, crono trigger on the DS.

If you can get a hold of them: Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts:II/Covenant, or if you can't get them, get the 3rd one 'From The New World', the first 2 have a very mature and dark story and has a unique battle system compared to other traditional RPG's, couldn't recommend them more.

ANY DISGAEA GAMES. There are 2 for PS2 one for PS3. Also try Arc the lad: Twilight of spirits on PS2, you won't be sorry.
Both AMAZING recommendations. I've beaten Disgaea 1-3 and Arc the Lad: ToS, and all four were amazing. Out of all of them, I think Disgaea 1 was my favorite though for the awesome characters. Each successive Disgaea improves on the combat system quite a bit too.

Another awesome suggestion. I still tell people that this game has one of the best stories of any game that I have ever played. The combat will take an hour or so to get used to, but it's extremely innovative.

Question: How about PC games? Could you play games, say, 2-3 years old on your current PC? That would open up TONS of possibilities.

Tales of Symphonia for the PS2, and you can download Super Mario RPG from the Wii shopping channel (Surprisingly good).

If you're willing to hunt down some older games, I recommend the Vandal Hearts series for the PS1 or the Shining Force games for the Sega. Classic RPGs.

Thank you! You're the first person I've seen in the forums besides myself who's mentioned Disgaea in a positive light. I love those games. Hell, I love Atlus games in general. The Arc The Lad series has been pretty good too.

I Agree wholeheartedly. The characters are really what makes those games shine.

Wii? Try to find a copy of the GameCube version of Skies of Arcadia.
PS2? Grandia 1 and 2. Especially Grandia 2.

Other games worth mentioning are already posted in the thread by others.

Though, really, any Dragon Quest will do
Don't be fooled by the yellow username, OP. This proves the staff are fallible. I'd recommend VIII (as it looks fantastic) or V, unfortunately not based on my own experience...yet. Just don't go digging a NES or Gameboy Colour out to play the first three. And be warned that they are very traditional JRPGs.

Just to continue my subversive vibe, play any Final Fantasy (I'd say from VI to X first) if you haven't already. The first two Shadow Hearts games are pretty interesting, and have more engaging gameplay than many turn-based JRPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSP would be a very good choice if it's anything like the original, and if you can bear strategy RPGs. Persona, Suikoden, Tales of..., Xenosaga/gears, the list goes on. You're spoilt for choice.

Apparently Wild Arms is good if you can bear the graphics though, long too. I was thinking about playing it recently but Suikoden 3 won out.

I know it's been said before, but Tales of Symphonia was an amazing game. Try that one out...however, if you are willing to go way back to the PS1 days, there's also Legend of Dragoon. LoD will keep you occupied for quite a while.

I have been into RPG's lately and im starting to run out of games that i should play, i have played and completed final fantasy 7, 10, x-2, i have played but not completed final fantasy 12,and crisis core i would get final fantasy 8 but theirs none in stock at the gamestop i go to, i have played fallout 3, oblivion, the star oceans, i even tried phantasy star universe, ive played mass effect and im probably forgetting some games but thats the gist of it i need some ideas on RPG games for the ps3, wii, psp, or ps2, my xbox is busted so that is out of the question, the only games i might have in mind r wild arms 1 and 2 on the psn, please give me some ideas n tell me wether or not the wild arms games are good
If you're really into turn based stuff, get yourself an SNES emulator and a ROM of Chrono Trigger. That will really tide you over.

If you're into the more customizable Bethesda style games, I can only say that the truly hardcore RPG players played Morrowind (Elder Scrolls 3, the game before Oblivion), which takes serious determination and effort to get a good character in (I only managed to level up to like 25 after tons of hard work).

And if you've never tried Diablo or Diablo 2, I would say get it; its 20 bucks, will definately run on your computer even if its a Mac, and even if you can't stomach the dated graphics, get yourself a copy of Titan Quest (same basic game as Diablo, different setting, better graphics) or wait for Diablo 3.

Any of the former recommendations are good. To answer the question, yes, the Wild ARMS games are good (They are spelled like that on purpose. The word ARMS is usually an in-game acronym.)

I'll second the recommendation for the Witcher and also add Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines to your list. Its a FPS/RPG blend on the Half Life 2 engine, so it'll run on most computers. The graphics and animations are a bit dated but its one hell of an experience.

Folklore is a GREAT action RPG, as is Odin Sphere on PS2 (though, it's freaking hard).
Another good one, but VERY tough for ps2, is the monster hunter series, or the freedom series if you've got a PSP.
Persona 3 FES, I guess this goes without saying.
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is another good PS2 action oriented turn based RPG by SquEnix.
Failing that, try Rogue Galaxy, Dragon Quest VIII, or Wild Arms 3,4.
Hope that helps.
If you want a decent turn based PC RPG along the veins, similar to say Fallout, or Planescape: Torment, try a game called Metal Heart: Replicant's Rampage.

For Xbox 360 i suggest: Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Eternal Sonata (i played this game for like 30 minutes, and I regret not buying it after renting), and Bioshock (thats kinda RPG-ish).

PS2: Kingdom Hearts 1, CoM, and 2.
