There is a disturbing lack of Gundam on this list.
Start with Gundam 0079, you can find it on YouTube.
Sure the animation is REALLY old; like 70's animation, but you're not in Gundam so much for the animation as you are the story.
Once the animation hits into the 90's you'll get some insanely good action sequences.
(08th MS team is my favorite).

If you want funny go with Cromartie High School or Lucky Star.
Cromartie High is one of the few instances where the dubs are better than the subs.

Thats wrong in the most right way possible. . . The japaneese voiceactors are obviously better. But the american english is just so much more fitting.

If not, Neon Genesis Evangelion. That is not funny, either.

Neon Genesis Evangelion isn't meant to be funny, but I always found Asuka to be incredibly amusing. ^_^

@ OP: I recommend Death Note. It's the first anime I properly sat down and watched, and it's got a pretty awesome plot.

what do you mean with Japanish? stuff like culture? if that,s the problem try Gurren Langann
if you want a more serious mech show (more realistic) try Gundam, skip Seed,seed Destiny and G Gundam (although I love G Gundam its not that realistic and more super robot)

Well, like always when recommending an anime, I recommend Hajime no Ippo. It's without a doutb the funniest aniem I've seen. Also, it's a shounen sport series full of energy. After 10 or so episodes you'll feel the desire to hit the gym yourself!

Both of us forgot about "Boondocks".

You should use torrents instead of watching low quality youtube videos.
http://Nyaatorrents.org is a great torrent search client for anime, and it's easy to navigate.

Wanting easy stuff to begin with then I would recommend any movie that's come out of Studio Ghibli. I'd also recommend Azu Manga Daioh and Cromartie High. Both are light hearted school based anime, the first is set in a girls school and the second in a boys, Cromartie is by far the weirder of the two.
