I've reached the point in my life where it seems that not one video game can keep my interest for more than a few days. I've tried many games but nothing is keeping my interest. Could someone suggest some games that might last a long time for me?

I really enjoy sandbox games, first-person shooters, and adventure games. I don't particularly dislike any genre.
Have you tried Just Cause 2?
No, I haven't. What type of game is it?
It's a sandbox, third person shooter, adventure game...with grappling hooks, parachutes, the ability to fly jets, cheap DLC, insane mods for the PC, and there's only one goal: Cause Chaos...AKA: Blow EVERYTHING up.
One more thing.. this might be the deal breaker.

Can you or can you not interact with anything you want? Like, can you pick up and use whatever your heart desires?
Well you can grapple objects but other than that...not really.

The thing is, you don't NEED to...you're blowing it all up anyways.
Oh, this sounds nice. Very nice. How big is the world? And can you avoid "campaign" entirely?
The game world is MASSIVE its an island but the thing is easily Australias younger brother, and the amount of dicking around you can do to avoid the campaign is insane, a very fun game in my opinion, also you have a magic parachute, you'll see what I mean if you play it

Edit: Yea just remembered that the campaign should be finished, then you can go nuts with free roam, but you don't have to do that as everything is open to begin with, also look up some of the easter eggs, they get pretty ridiculous

how about starcraft 2? The campaign took me around 18 hours on hard and it has a very competitive multiplayer or you can play the custom maps that people can create.

This right here. I have over 120 hours played and about 80 of those are on ONE MOD called Prophesy of Pendor. There are probably five or six other mods out there that play like their own game as well. There's also the new version called With Fire and Sword or something, but I haven't tried it yet.

On the "spamming yourself with cheap / free games" venue:

Iji
Cave Story
Depict1 (aka Deception)
Aquaria ($10, on their site)
The Journey Down - an AGS game
The Chzo Mythos series (made by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw)

Team Fortress 2. it is easily the best FPS I've played. 9 classes, all with unique skills, weapons, strengths and weaknesses. I bought it not even a year ago and have over 600 hours logged. it has one of the all-time best communities of all time and Valve updates it with new weapons/maps/hats regularly.

It's a fantastic game that has taken countless hours of my life. in my opinion, that's time well spent.

not to mention, it's $10 on Steam, there's really no reason NOT to buy this thing.

I would suggest these groups (they have their own servers) to start out with:
The FUN-GINEERS
Critical Failure Gamers Union
Generic Clan Name

great game, great community, great times. in the words of Joe-Bob Briggs, "four stars, check it out!"

Just Cause 2 and Red Dead Redemption are your tickets to sandbox paradise. Just Cause 2 is massive, and is best once you've beaten all the main missions and are just faffing about and blowing up 'splodable things. RDR has infinite replay value for me, due to the excellent sandbox experience as well as amazing story.

WoW, ummm, there is always the option of just going out instead of playing games. Do push ups until you can't anymore, then run, repeat.
Are you trying to KILL your fellow Escapists???

RL is pretty awesome (although it's rather old; was released some milliard years ago, but the graphics are still unmatched)

great animations, awesome textures, very smooth models, lots of stuff to do, a highly interactive world with NPCs of all qualitites of AI; you can do about anything you want there, should keep you busy for an entire lifetime ^^

If you're not so adverse to the RPG genre, may I suggest some of the following:

Wild ARMs 1
Grandia 1
Chrono Trigger
LUNAR: Silver Star Story Complete
LUNAR 2: Eternal Blue Complete

All of these games can be played on the old PS1 and PS2 consoles. All of them have epic story lines, the graphics on the first three games mentioned aren't really good by today's standards but it's only nitpicking at that point. Oh, and this list of games has some of the most epic fucking music you will ever hear.

And I dare you not to cry once during Grandia 1. I cried three times during that game.

Ah, that's not you boring easily, that would be the industry deteriorating rapidly, so for the time being: hold out for good releases, unless you want to devolve your taste to that of a 12 year old, you're going to have to pa-wait a minute! Three words: Dungeons.And.Dragons. 'Nuff said. That just reminded me I've got DnD games lined up for tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday some friends and I are renting out a tavern for a Dnd game. Play Dnd~ If you're into it, that is. :3

This happens to me sometimes. Play a game that you know you enjoy, on a harder difficulty, play a multiplayer game with friends, or go to the bargin bin at your local game store and pick up some titles that caught your eye before, but you never got.
I have a shelf full of games I haven't beaten yet, and a summer to do it. Yet I am still playing MW2 =/

If that doesn't help, try changing gears and watch movies/anime for a while.
