Alright, so I just finished another Kurt Vonnegut novel(Mother Night) and I don't have anything to read. This is a problem. So would you kindly post some of your favorite books/series to help me decide what to pick up next. Who knows, you might even see something that catches your own eye in here.

Anything by David Mitchell. Cloud Atlas is a popular one, as is number9dream. Failing that, read some more Vonnegut. He's good for the soul.

I love Steven Erikson, as a fantasy geek.
If you're looking for more classic literature... Well, the gothic horror section is always good (Particularly The Monk, Dracula, Frankenstein, etc.)
Antony Beevor is a great historian that's very readable..

But absolutely my favorite author is George MacDonald Fraser, who wrote the flashman series... The wittiest, funniest, most knowingly (and knowledgedeably) written books I've ever read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Paget_Flashman

The Darktower Saga by Stephen King. It is basically his Lord of the Rings, but it affects nearly every single one of his books. Well worth the read. The first book is The Gunslinger.

I must say I'm kinda tired with all Suggestions threads.....you know there is a search engine on the internet and heck just go to a library and ask.(same goes for music etc.)

I'm sorry for being so rude but it had to be said.

The god of all writing, Jim Butcher!

Sorry sorry, couldn't help myself. I love him... I mean his books.

He has two series. Both are fantasy.
My favorite is his series, The Dresden Files. They're set in modern-day-Chicago with a wizard named Harry Dresden who fights off monsters that most people aren't aware of. It sounds a little strange, but the author does a very good job with the main character.

His other series is a more traditional fantasy series set in another world with magic. It's got swords and stuff, but it's darker than The Lord of the Rings and he also does a great job on these characters. They're called the Codex Alera, the first book is Calderon's Fury.

The Children of Hurin is brilliant if you like Tolkien. It's not a happy story mind, so be prepared for that.

Oh, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower is more than worth the read - it's one of my favourites.

Journey To The West.

It's about a monkey king who causes crazy antics.

It's pretty sweet.

Are you looking for exclusively novels and the likes? I don't read in the much of them but if you want something factual I can help.

A Short History of Nearly Everything (Still reading this, very interesting book if you're into physics and shit)

The Book of General Ignorance (In true QI fashion everything you know is wrong)

The Book of Animal Ignorance (As above, but with animals)

John Dies at the End by David Wong - Horror Comedy. Pretty good.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski - Psychological. Also quite good.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson is pretty good, another good one is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.

1984 (Orwell) my favourite book of all time, scarily accurate (and I don't just mean CCTV).

The Outsider/Stanger (Camus) Reading it at the moment as I decided I should read more twentieth century literature.

Nausea (Sartre) Part of my read more twentieth century literature theme.

Metamorphosis (Kafka) Next on my read more... well you get the idea.

Anything by Daniel Clowes, actually make that everything by Daniel Clowes.

EDIT: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Dick) or anything (and everything) by Philip K Dick perhaps closer to Vonnegut than any of the above (altough my knowledge of him doesn't stretch beyond Fahrenheit 451 and I read that many years ago).

Have you been in my bookcase?
Next up you'll reccomend Douglas Hofstadter's "Godel, Escher Bach" or "I am a strange loop".
(both are very good reading material)

Neuromancer-William Gibson. Basically it's a book about a drug addicted computer hacker who has to work for suspicious people because his previous employers destroyed his nervous system so he was unable to continue his work. ...yeah. It's a good book though.

Snow Crash or The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson. More sci-fi stuff. Snow Crash is another computer hacker (Hiro Protagonist) who meets a 14 year old skater chick. Action-y stuff ensues. I honestly don't know how to explain The Diamond Age though...

Hey,

I'd suggest Douglas Adams' The Hitchhikers Gudie to the Galaxy series.
The genre is Sci-fi, technically, but it doesn't feel too... geeky?
I find it clever and funny, so by all means, give it a go :)

Good luck with zee books.

"Do Androids dream of electric sheep?" I'm an avid fan of Phillip K. Dick. He's kinda like an Orwellian writer but his themes are good. Basically Blade Runner with more depth(BR was based off the book)
Edit:Ninja'd. Good readers out here ;)

Nation By Terry Pratchett.

Boy meets Girl. Girl is shipwrecked on Boy's island by tidal wave. Same wave ruins boy's life, and he has to pick up the pieces as he tries to rebuild his culture and struggles with the concept that his gods may not be real.
