Do you have any preferred genres? Some good progressive rock is old Genesis, like the albums Trespass and Nursery Cryme. Some good metal of course is Iron Maiden, Kreator is a great thrash band if you've never heard of them. Ween is a good sorda weird drug influenced band, so if you like weird shit they may be for you. Nirvana is good but I'm sure you've listened to them, and of course Iron Maiden.Theres so many more I could name but I'll leave it with that.

Falconer. You don't need anything else (except maybe MetroidMetal).

Vocals done by Mathias Blad.

Vocals by Kristoffer Gobel (not quite as good in my opinion, but still great).
is appropriate to say i just had an eargasm?

Red Hot Chili Peppers are amazing. Old Coldplay is amazing, and their newer stuff is pretty good. U2 has always been good, one of the last remaining classic bands that still puts out good music.

Anything?....
Melo Death:
My favorite is probably Insomnium. Check out the album "Above the Weeping World"

Prog Metal:
I'll just list bands:
- BTBAM (metalcore influence... among a lot of other things)
- The Human Abstract (stick to Nocturne, the newer one is kinda eh... they're coming out with a new album early next year which looks promising though)
- Protest the Hero (punk-influenced)
- Mastodon (Crack the Skye is a personal favorite, but all of their stuff is good)
- Cynic (just fucking awesome)
- Scale the Summit (Instrumental. They're very mellow though, the music takes you on a journey almost)
- Animals as Leaders (Think Scale the Summit + some heaviness)
- Periphery (people have mixed opinions on the vocals, but everything else is solid)
- Coheed and Cambria (these guys count as metal... right? More poppish than others on this list, but still very good)
- Speak of the Devil (more prog-metalcore, but very good. The synth can be a turn-off at times, but you get used to it I suppose)
Many others, but those are my favorites.

Jazz:
- Maynard Ferguson (Hits notoriously high notes on trumpet, pretty much just great overall)
- John Coltrane (Listen to Giant Steps and shit yourself, tenor sax player)
- Miles Davis (duh)
- Cannonball Adderley (Alto sax player. My favorite from him is Work Song, although that was actually written by his brother Nat)

Other favorites:
- Gorillaz (Hard to define, kind of an alternative rap/rock thing. Demon Days is a classic though)
- The White Stripes (They seem like modern day Led Zeppelin at times.)
- A Day to Remember (Loving the new album, their big hit so far is Downfall of Us All if you wanna check it out. Kind of a pop-punk/hardcore mix)
- Four Year Strong (both albums are solid, best pop-punk band I've heard since stuff from the 90's.)
- Reel Big Fish (ska-punk... love it. Not a fan of some of the covers, but the original stuff is great)
- The Smashing Pumpkins (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is an AWESOME ALBUM. Albeit a bit long.)

Those are the major ones I can think of at the moment. I also like Green Day, but 21st Century Breakdown pissed me off to the point that I left them off the list.

Poets of the Fall - They are one of the most wonderful bands I've ever heard, hands down.

The Classic Crime - they're kinda a pop-punk band, and their latest album was kinda crap - at least, to me it was - but the first two were good.

Ryan Star - Also a very good band.

Modest Mouse, or more specifically, "No one's First and Your Next.". I bought the album a little while ago and I love HALF of it. The rest is ok.
Also, listen to Marcy Playground's "Shapeshifter". It's a great album.
Do you like instrumental music? Ywngwie J. Malmsteen has some great instrumental guitar.

Well, I've really taken an interest in the gorillaz newest album. *shrug* dunno if it's your sort of thing, but that's up to you, not me :)

really not melancholy hill (by far the stand out hit of the album)
Don't worry, I love that song too, but I wasn't gonna flood the poor child with examples =P
(honestly, that WOULD have been the next song I put up, but decided 2 was enough)

Here are a few different sounding groups that I enjoy:

~E.S. Posthumus (they make a lot of the music you hear in epic movie trailers)
~Enter the Haggis (they are described as a Celtic Rock band)
~Bond (a sexy string quartet that kicks out some amazing songs, I recommend looking up their song "Explosive," which was also the theme of the 2004 summer Olympics)
~Twelve Girls Band (they play traditional Chinese instruments but produce some amazing sounds, sort of like Bond in a way. Look up "Freedom," "Carnival," and "Dunhuang" for a good feel of what they do)

I recommend you check out a few bands, particularity Yes, Red Rider, U2 and Tom Petty, if you don't already know of them. Or, if none of these do it for you, you should check out some Vocaloids. I think they're cool.

Some examples (look 'em up on YouTube):
Yes: Changes, Hearts, It Can Happen
Red Rider: Don't Fight It, White Hot, Ocean Blue, Avenue "A", Crack the Sky, Can't Turn Back
U2: With or Without You, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Where the Streets Have No Name
Tom Petty: Free Falling, You Got Lucky, American Girl, Refugee
Vocaloids: Hatsune Miku - Love Is War, Hatsune Miku - Last Night Good Night, Gumi - Coward Montblanc

These are some examples of the music that I like.
