I can't believe no one has mentioned Burn Notice. It's a really good Spy vs Spy action/drama/comedy thing that even educates you in the world of spycraft. Bruce Campbell as one of the leads doesn't hurt either.

My absolute favorite is "Supernatural"

Spoiler: About the show

Season one and two are about the Winchester brothers searching for their father, during this they hunt supernatural beings like vampires, demons, ghosts, vendigos etc, every episode is a own chapter and only linked by the search of their father.

After this, from season 3 and up until now (season 8) there's more of a red line and a story that the brothers follow, usually a big demon trying to take over the universe or ArchAngels going batshit crazy trying to bring dudgementday on earth and a few other "big bad guys" which they try to bring down. But also during these seasons there are inputs that go back to season one and two to show new "normal monsters" and just normal hunting episodes.

babylon 5 is one of if not then best scince fiction show ever made, it has great story and characters and is really worth watching. the first season can be a little hard to get through but it is really worth it.
i am currently watch the 2004 re-imagining of battlestar galactica, i have just star the second series and it really good, some really intense momnets, and the religious aspect adds a bit more intrege, but the characters can be really bipolar at time, acting one then doing the opposite the next.
