So, everyone says that it's glitchy, but also has a better story than Fallout 3.

It's also cheaper than Fallout 3 on Steam.

Should I get it?

For the record, the kind of games I like are typically FPSes, such as CoD, BF, TF2, CS, HL2, etc.

I'm not much of an RPG fanatic, but I do like RPGs. Haven't played one in a while.

Do you guys think this is a game I would like?

I have no idea who told you the story was better than Fallout 3's but they were wrong in my opinion. Also if it's cheaper but more recent than what does that tell you? It wasnt as well recieved. Bethesda (developer of Fallout 3) actually knows what they are doing with their engine, where Obsidian (developer of New Vegas) had only used it briefly and is known for not being able to finish their games.

The dlc for Fallout 3 is much better as well.

edit: We also have the same taste in games, so definitely pick up 3 over New Vegas, I'm sure you could get a good deal on the game of the year edition, which has all 5 dlc contents.

For £8.99 (or equivalent for wherever you are) you probably should. It's a good game with a large modding community so you can't go wrong for that price.

That New Vegas is included in the Steam sale whereas Fallout 3 isn't.

Well, from replaying it and watching the news feeds on Steam , it's been patched quite a number of times since it's release and runs smoothly for me. It's also a game that also has quite a lot of mod activity, but I don't really play with mods.

As for the story, I actually prefer Fallout 3's story, but I wish it had some of the things NV has. Such as the change in repairing and the Wacky Wasteland option. However, I enjoyed the game having played at least 100+ hours, but then again I really like WRPGS.

I don't think it could hurt to try it, especially since the game is so cheap.

Fallout: New Vegas feels exactly like what it is: a spin-off. Is that a bad thing? Not by a long shot. Fallout 3 has a more epic story and a better world, but New Vegas uses the same engine to tell a different, more contained story. I'd say you can't go really wrong with either, but maybe play F3 before moving to NV.

I would say get it, especially if its in the steam sale. You wont get better value for money anywhere.

I'd absolutely recommend it over 3. Glitchiness aside, it's pretty much an improvement over 3 in every way that counts. The story is better, but more importantly, the actual characters themselves are far better: much more memorable, less grating voice acting. The quests are also more involved with more emphasis on choosing how you want to do it, and there's less dungeon crawling than 3, a huge improvement.

The game can get annoying when it borks a couple of quests, but there's usually work arounds.

Also, you get Felicia day as a sharp witted, power-fist wielding companion. What more could you want?

New Vegas does the same that Fallout 2 did to Fallout 1.
There weren't an major differences in graphics, but the controls were improved greatly.
The story was the same in its core, though instead of growing up in a vault you grew up in a tribe.
The major difference is the humor factor and overall atmosphere.
New Vegas actually works WITH the Fallout Universe established canon, unlike Fallout 3 that landed in the west coast intentionally to make a fresh start.
In New Vegas you hear of the NCR, the Hub, President Tandi - you have intelligent Super Mutants (Like there should be). I can say confidently that I miss my intelligent radscorpion that managed to beat me at chess only becasue I didn't know "The Flying Liver" move, or talking friendly deathclaws. Did I say I met a talking plant with a reference for the movie "Little shop of Horrors".
C'mon, if it's remotely connected to these old games I'm buying them without consideration.
On the other hand they did a poor job at that compared to Fallout 2.
Ah, Gorris, I miss your cape.

Well if you like guns NV has an assload more than fallout 3 (and a sat laser), plus you can mod them, aka a hunting rifle with a scope? huzza!. The overall story in NV isn't as good as it is in F3, at least that's my opinion. But a lot of the dialog is funny as hell (Im a ghost ooohhh, lol) plus new vegas has true iron sights. It is overall better in regards to fps and still has decent rpg elements, (hand loaded ammunition anyone?) In regards to bugs, yes it has loads, keeping your saves to only one slot would be a good idea two is pushing it and 3 is risky.

You will know when your beginning to push it because the load screens will start to take longer, going from talking 5 to 20 seconds to taking several minutes. I had 4 saves when the game first came out, cleared my cache and reduced my saves when my load times reached over 10 minutes, seemed to solve the problem until I went over 3 saves again. Besides you can do a lot more things in new vegas then in fallout 3, however fallout 3 has a map that has got to be at least over 8 times the size of the one in new vegas. Sooo yea trade offs.

No glitches for me, literally zero. Maybe it was worse in the beginning or something, but I've had nothing but a smooth run so far (up to level 20, still haven't actually been to the Strip). So update-wise it's good.

Story is good - it's not, as far as I can tell - very cohesive, but the WORLD and the quests and so forth that you can do in it is top-notch. Really good stuff. As long as you don't mind just wandering around discovering new locations and shooting radscorpions in the tail, you'll be good. Gear, crafting and armor/weapon system is much better than F3 as well. All around I'd recommend it, very much.

I think you would like this game, It is pretty much an FPS, but it is a huge RPG as well.

It's not as big or long as Fallout 3, but it does have a much richer atmosphere and story.

I own both and thoroughly enjoyed every hour of them.

So, yeah go ahead and get Fallout: NV

I heartily recommend getting New Vegas but make sure you get the patches for it. Also, get the DLCs for it. They're bad ass as well.

On game length: Is it a proper game in itself (I.E. Assassin's Creed II vs. Assassin's Creed) or is it simply a glorified expansion? (I.E. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood vs. Assassin's Creed II)

It's a full-fledged Fallout game. It's as long as you make it.

I liked Fallout 3 better, but am still playing New Vegas and getting the DLC.

I think the story of F3 was more epic and larger in scope, but the NV storyline is more personal and more morally adaptable.

Glitches aside...I wish they'd kept the good things of F3 instead of overdoing the minor stuff. They went nuts with the Reloading and Recipes, but eliminated most of the craftable weapons (I wanted to make a Railway Rifle, thank you).

Also, the Faction thing is hit or miss. Having a specific group KoS you in F3 due to your race or your genocidal tendencies is all well and good, but having someone hate you unexpectedly a hundred miles away because you defended yourself from attack...I like that less.

Get it while it's on sale.

You'll like it (or rather - not hate it) if you liked Fallout 3, but otherwise, NV falls short in comparison. It just feels like more of the same, except with most of the best F3 mods worked into the game, and it has a setting/story made to appeal more towards the original Fallout fans.

Otherwise, it feels... I dunno.. It completely lacks any charm.. For me, at least. Like, for example, I could play F3 for hours, just roaming around the map, exploring stuff (and constantly finding new thing I never knew existed, even though I completed the game several times). While NV put me into the whole "lets just get it over with" mindset, I didn't find it bery exciting or interesting at all...

I would definitely recommend it. Especially since it's on sale.

Having played both to bits, I enjoyed New Vegas a bit more than I did Fallout 3. It just had a better atmosphere in my opinion, as well as a better story. The gunplay is also better, due to the ironsights meaning you can actually hit things at a distance without resorting to V.A.T.S. It's not nearly as glitchy as it was at release either. There was a big patch a while back that fixed most of the bigger issues. I haven't really had any major problems with it since then. So yeah, go for it.
