I have to agree with Evilbunny, that said, this kind of deal is never ever going to come your way again. Think of it this way, if you'll be up there without friends(at first) you won't have ANY distractions.

I have a friend who's father is a dean at Polytechnic Institute of NYU and can get me into there (FREE) and hook me up with a dorm room (FREE) and pay for my tuition. The only problem is that I live in California.

I have never been all that close with my family but I do have allot of friends here and I would be leaving them for a shit load of time.

I have little to no money and transfering out of Mt.SAC (Jr. College) is allot harder than I thought it would be.

I am running out if time (2 weeks left) to decide and I just want to hear some input on the situation before I decide

P.S. I have consulted this with most of my friends and family but all of them say its up to me and I still dont have a clue.
It all depends, if Polytech for you guys is anything like University over here(y'know 5 grand a year just for courses and 7 grand for a dorm room), then you need to take this opportunity.
It's better to come out of a degree with little-nothing owning, rather than alot.
If you did stay where you are, you still wouldn't see all your friends and family all that much, take it from a Uni student, once you start getting your assignments, time dissapears very quickly.
Remember that even if you don't like it up there and you can't bear to be away from friends and family, you can always pull out and it's cost you next to nothing.

***Edit***

Oh bugger it looks like I was too late, you made the best decision anyways.

Yeah, but is the deal legit? How do you know you won't be murdered?
If that's not a concern...I still don't know. I would probably go, if I were you.
But I don't have many close friends who live nearby, so.
Yeah the deals legit I have met with his father and we get along well (at least I hope we do).

try it out for a year, if you dont like it just transfer back home

but an opportunity for free tuition and housing is a GREAT deal, I went to a college where none of my friends are going but you still got a phone and facebook
That sounds like a good plan its just that this computer I am using isnt mine (my cousin is letting me use it till he gets to college [he is a junior in highschool]) so there goes facebook but still I might just do that (to bad I have to pay for my own transportation).
paying for a computer and transport is small shit compared to tuition and housing in California

Dude. Your family and friends aren't going anywhere. I know people that have gone to junior college, and I know that the hardest part of getting out is finding another school to accept you and then making the move. For you, it looks like the hardest part is over.

Plus, I know several people from my university who came in as transfer students and made lots of friends while in school. I'm sure you can do it too. Plus, like other people said, if after a semester/year you find out you don't like it, you can always move back to Claremont or whatever. (Yeah, I know where Mt. SAC is)

But you know what? As a person who just completed his undergraduate studies, I say good luck!
