Oh look another "Should I buy this." or "What should I go buy" topic. But hear me out.

This holiday season there will be no shortage of great titles to buy, or even ask for from people. However two of the big titles I'm not terribly interested in. I wasn't a fan of Oblivion, and from what I've seen and heard, Fallout 3 is pretty much that with guns and some gray and brown paint. I also wasn't a fan of Gears of War, feeling it was Unreal Tourny's retarded younger nephew, so I more than likely won't be picking that up either.

As for the others, I've already asked for L4D, I have a reserve on Prince of Persia, and i'm still not really sure about CoD:WW, hearing some negative things about the MP and the campaign. So I'm asking you, my fellow gaming brethren (and sisters) Am I missing something? Is there some gem out there that I've passed over in my quest? And what on earth should I bloody get this year??

Perhaps I should just state the games I have...
[li]Fable 2[/li]
[li]FarCry 2[/li]
[li]SW: TFL[/li]
[li]Halo 3[/li]
[li]CoD4[/li]
[li]The Orange Box[/li]
[li]AC:FA[/li]
[li]AC4[/li]
[li]Bioshock[/li]
[li]DMC4[/li]
[li]Soul Calibur IV[/li]
[li]Mass Effect[/li]
[li]GTA IV[/li]
[li]Tiger Woods 08[/li]
[li]Assassin's Creed[/li]

And the games I'm asking for already:
[li]Left 4 Dead[/li]
[li]Rock Band 2[/li]

Games I'm now considering:
[li]Dead Space[/li]
[li]Mirror's Edge[/li]

Games I'm not interested in but get the feeling from the lot of you I should be:
[li]Fallout 3 (not a fan of Oblivion, but seems like that shouldn't matter)[/li]
[li]Gears of War 2(didn't like GoW1, not convinced I'll like GoW20[/li]
[li]CoD: WaW (I've heard negative things, that and I'm not really into World War II games, nor Nazi zombies...)[/li]

So yeah...erm...what else have I not considered?

I like platformers and action rpgs mostly. I enjoy a good FPS and anything with a well done multiplayer aspect, be it split screen or matchmaking. I'm not a fan of racing games, or grinding rpgs, and really can't get into a sports game.

I'm going to put this in the OP...I'm not trying to be negative and shoot everyone's suggestions down, I'm simply looking for that hidden gem I hadn't thought of

Well, instead of another video game, you could always ask for one of these.
I have...didn't go over so well
What? Someone in your family have something against a meter-long sword hanging on your wall?

In all seriousness though, I'd suggest Midnight Club: Los Angelos. Unless you aren't into racing games. Then I'm drawing a blank.

I didn't like oblivion either, but I do like Fallout.

Ah yes, 360.
Lost Odyssey is supposed to be decently good. I've never played and am only going off of two friends who said I should play it, but if you haven't it might be worth a rental.

I would definitely recommend Mirror's Edge. It's not perfect, but it's something that I guarantee that you've never played before. There's a demo on the Xbox Marketplace.
Also, if you want something a little less serious, I would recommend Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Again, the same description as the last game.
Finally, though you might have already had it since it's been out for over a year, The Orange Box is the single best game package ever made, full stop.

Rock Band/Guitar Hero? Dead Space?
ah HA! Dead Space...it wasn't a game I wanted to buy...but i might give it a shot if some one grabbed it for me

I threw Rock Band on my list as well... I know Tool is on GHWT, but...it's so bloody expensive when you compare it.

Mass Effect (it's likely you already have this)

Rainbow Six 1+2 are definitely worthwhile games.

Grand Theft Auto IV is not as open-world as you'd think, but excellent nonetheless.

Fallout 3 is good, and has some very definite improvements over Oblivion.

Rainbow 6 Vegas is pretty good for co-op.
GTA4 is worth a playthrough.
COD4 is great as well, however a bit short if you don't like multiplayer.
And if your computer is up to the task, I happily recommend Age of Empires 3, Age of Mythology and Company of Heroes.

However, if you're looking for a real gem, download Castle Crashers. I bought it this morning; it's crazy good fun.

I'm asking for Dead Space for Hanukah :D but I do suggest Dead Space, it's a nice breath of fresh air if you're into some standard survival horror games or soemthing.

EDIT: Ah, but I see you're not interested in in. Very well, Fallout 3 is a nice open world game to explore, you could give that a shot.

I guess we should just name all the top titles and say "Get them". Since this is the case, allow me to reiterate what everyone else has said since money doesn't seem to be an issue for you (sadly it is for me >_<)

Fallout 3
L4D
Mirror's Edge
Banjo&Kazooie
Gears of War 2
Dead Space
Rock Band 2
Call of Duty: World at War(You will not be dissapointed)
Fable 2
Saints Row 2

Honestly, the list goes on and on. They're all great buys and none will leave you unsatisfied.
