A close friend of mine, whose name I shan't disclose, has been having some very serious trouble. An ex (how is currently living in the UK) of hers has been threatening her with physical violence and to post some extremely explicit photos of her onto 4chan, and she's technically a minor when it comes to pornography. Now the reason for this is that she gave his teddy bear (He's in his 20's) to a friend of his because she didn't want it in her house.

The question I ask is, would pressing charges be possible or at all advised?

A side note, her and I live in Canada.

EDIT: Forgot to say, she went to a local police officer and asked if she could press charges, she got told that it was just a learning experience and that she's have to just cope.

Sounds like it shouldn't be a big deal considering the space between the 2 of them but threatening her with violence and underage pornography are both illegal, so you probobly should do something to be on the safe side.
I'd start with a restraining order and not really worrying about anything in 4chan, that stuff is there all the time and only creeps go to it

Drop child pornography charges on his ass, problem solved. Also, law followed. That's good too.

But can't she get nabbed for distribution too if she did that? :\ That's how it works here I believe. (stupidly, I'll admit. Our sex crime laws are terribly made)

Well, according to my very technical, real, and incredibly official degree in law (graduate Internet University, 2010), I think that you could probably get him for distributing child pornography and threatening physical violence. I say go for that.

If he posts it on the Internet while living in the UK, and your friend is a minor, then it technically is considered Child Pornography which is against the law in the UK. As for the ability to press charges, I'm not as sure since how to go about pressing them. I'll get some more info and PM it too you okay?
Edit: The police told her that!? I'm sorry but that is completely wrong to tell her just to cope with it.

That must have been one UGLY teddy bear.
You should see the guy, so greasy that if he wanders within a dozen paces of fire he might combust, oh, and he dates people far younger than himself.

Well under age pornography laws in Canada is essentially like being cracked over the head with a hammer. Were quite harsh here. And everywhere else I would assume are to. So if he's a UK citizen contact the authorities there or the canadian ones to tell them, and most likely he'll get his ass busted for underage pornography. He goes to jail for x-years. You two remain anonymous and he'll probably think he just got caught in the net, instead of trapped.

Since he's being a real nob about it and all, you probably should. And though I'm no legal expert and this is not advice, it's conversation. You probably should. I don't know if you or her would have to go through the whole trial process though.

It's up to her though since she's the victim.

what kind of jerk police are these that just brush off domestic issues? Sure, it's probably a hassle for them to press international charges, but I'm sure in this globalized society it's possible.

It is considered Sexual assault. Beyond that, it's beyond my legal expertise. It certainly sounds like there could be more in the form of blackmail/Child abuse/pornography, but beyone that. I don't know the implications.

In hindsight, I'll keep my comments on our oh, so pro-active Mounties to myself.

What kind of miserable heartless ***** gives away a guy's teddy bear?

Not justifying his response or anything, but damn. You can't just... give away someone's teddy bear. It's sacred. I'd slap someone in the face if they did that to me. I guess if she gave it to a friend of his he can just get it back, but still.

I don't really have an answer to your question unfortunately; as far as the threats of violence goes, does she have any record of them? like maybe text messages or something? If so, there must be something she can do with that.

I deduced the last bit from the OP. As to how to deal with this jerk, the most extreme legal recourse that Neronium says is possible. If he was THAT attached to the bear (something I can actually understand given that I still treasure my own) why would he let his ex keep it in the first place? But why didn't she just send it back to him if she didn't want it?
She isn't that well off and I don't really know why o.o
