I don't see how else it could work? The quickest/most observant one wins, how else should it be?
Perhaps it was the aiming system, but it only seemed to work one way (as in this person sees me first, and kills me, I see this person first, empty a whole load of ammo and some grenades, and then still get killed).

No, my original post wasn't clear at all.
Yea, I really hated seeing someone and shooting at them, only to have them turn around and kill me with like 2 bullets. Especially when I know they where so close to dying
This is called host advantage, and COD4 is absolutely full of it. It's to do with internet connections and time taken for data to travel along them.
Even on local multiplayer player its the same thing

Hmm I've never encountered it on local multiplayer but I'll take your word for it.

Host advantage can be an incredibly frustrating exprience, especially in a game like COD4 where split second timing is required.

I have alot of love for the game. I picked it up recently, knocked out the single player rather quickly, then focused on flipping between Veteran campaign and online play. Veteran is mindblowingly impossible at times, for instance the level I'm on right now is No Fighting In The War Room, which takes the piss in difficulty. Online play is fun though, although the Prestige mode takes far too long to fully unlock.

I liked it too - WaW was boring as hell and there is a lot less balance than in COD4.

I've had some good times on it - and it was mainly those experiences that made it a good game. I still day PC TF2 is my favourite.

I never really enjoyed any of the other CoD games that much. I thought the single player for CoD4 was brilliant, and I'm yet to get more entertainment from any other multi player shooter.

Of course, I also think that playing FPS's on consoles is a lot like driving with a gardening hose stuck up your nose so that might be your problem.

Meh.
I really only enjoyed All Ghillied Up more than anything else in the game.
The MP I don't like, at all. I prefer having a health bar of some sort in a MP game so it won't be what Randomtime described.

EDIT: Grab the P90 and spray.

Ok, so i've only played a couple of games with friends who have the game, but I never really liked it, I found the gameplay too much like the person who sees and aims first gets the kill, and snipers very common, prehaps it was because I was playing on a console, and I normally play FPS games with a mouse, but I found myself sitting out of later games just because I didn't like it. Anyone else share this opinon? Or really like COD and want to tell me what I was missing.
Okay, so you don't like COD4, who gives a shit! That's whay there are many different games out there, because we all like different ones!
He asked if anyone else shares the same opinion as he does. No need to be a dick.
Sorry if that counts as flaming.

You're not the first to hate CoD4. The controls are horrid and the franchise is criminally overrated.

Online there is lag, and I should know. I really do have a bad connection around half the time. But I still break even, or get positive k/d spreads in most matches. And there will be thousands of deaths where I will have shot at someone first and through luck or skill I have come out second. But I don't complain, because that is how the game works.

If you're noticing lag offline then I have nothing to say but that you just aren't that good. I'm not trying to be one of those dicks who say "Haha, n00b!! i iz l337, and u r tbaged!!!!", I'm just saying that you saying that someone killing you is unfair is just the way the game works. I'm not saying the multiplayer's perfect - it's full of flaws, complaints and imbalances, but your complaints are based off your own bad luck and lack of skill.

Okay realistic me...

I though it was mediocre, and the multiplayer wasn't that great, the level desing for multiplayer was a little bit shallow. I liked Call of Duty 2 much better. SIngle player, multiplayer, the whole shabam. Call of Duty 2 is still the best in the series
This. I got about halfway through the campaign and went back to playing something else.

I just got it recently because I refuse to pay full price for a game that has been out for like 2 years. I got it on sale and have been very happy with it. At first i was getting killed all the time and had a ratio or .4 but now i'm used to it and am learning as i play and it had risen somewhat. I find it really fun to do the challenges and to upgrade you weapons. It gives me something else to play for. I think the single player was very well done and really intense.

I didn't like it very much at all. I played it because it was fairly good at the time yet it didn't hold up. There wasn't much variety in the multiplayer and the campaign had little replay value. The fact that all the multiplayer maps were directly ripped from the campaign made online play a little less interesting. World at War was more enjoyable because of it's wider variety and return to the World War II setting reminded me of Call of Duty 2, specifically. CoD 2 is also my favorite. I believe it defines the series.

By now, its understandable that some people new to the game may not like it, but if you were there from the begining, and thus have the native skills to play the multiplayer reasonably well, it is one of the most rewarding games to play. I only just started TF2, and cant get past the noob wall (that is to say, dying 20 times and getting one kill). Most of the criticism that has been leveled against COD4 here I could apply to TF2, its all down to how long other people have been playing the multiplayer compared to you.

Depends on what you see in the CoD franchise. I enjoyed CoD4 and its predecessors quite much, however I was not looking for the holy grail of FPS. It's more like a decent action flick: it's about the variety and optics, not necessarily a challenging gameplay or deep background story.
Eh.. and name me 2 other games in which you can fly an AC 130 :D

So who here will be getting MW2?

Do you thinkg that MW1 ruined any chance of you getting it or will you give it a go?

If stopped playing CoD4 within a week, never touched the single player. I really tried to like it, but it just wasn't fun for me at all. All shooters seem the same to me, and there was no way in hell I was going to pay full price for a reskin of a game I got bored of, except with worse guns and now tanks for people to agrgue over, oh, with a damn zombie mod...F*ck That. I'm still getting MW2 though, mainly because everyone else is so I'm going to struggle to get people to play Worms with me...and who knows, maybe I'll like it.
