Well... yeah just like the topic says. Since I can remember I always had TERRIBLE problems with sleep, I would either not be able to fall asleep of fall asleep WAY TOO HARD (if that makes any sense) so that I would sleep for 10 hours or more. There was literally no thing that could wake me up and this issue has pretty much ruined a big chunk of my life.

For example I was always either late for job or completely sleepy when I got there. I lost 3 jobs because of that!
Same with school, I almost got expelled because I would often show up at later lessons (early lessons were starting at 8 am) or not show up at all. People often asked me "what the hell are you doing when you are not at school?" and I would always find some sort of stupid explanation like "you know just wandering around the city, doing cool stuff", because I just couldn't force myself into telling people that I nearly fuc*ed up my education since I like to sleep long.

As said this has been my problem for many many years, I'm 19 now and as said this problem has been with me since I can remember.
I visited many doctors, had my brainwaves and other stuff checked multiple times... nothing, I'm perfectly normal, for all doctors knew they think I was just faking it. FAKING IT! For 19 years I've been FAKING it that I can't frigging sleep properly because, I don't know I'm stupid that way.

So when doctors and standard medications failed I turned to... less "legal" ways of falling asleep. It sounds really stupid now but back then I had real problems at school because of my "issue" and it started turning into pretty deep depression, thankfully my sister was there to slap me in the face, call me stupid and make me not take any of that shit ever again.
It wasn't working anyway.

Eventually I decided that SOMETHING must be wrong with the way I sleep. So I started checking every corner of the internet for ways to sleep properly, but pretty much none of them worked, some of them worked a little bit and some of them made it worse. Than I found out about meditation and how to do it properly, people who were talking about it described their problems pretty much the same way I did so hey It might have worked!
It did for some time. Basic way is that I was no longer SLEEPING during the night, I was meditating, So for 2 weeks I felt great because FINALLY my problem was gone. Well not for long because soon meditation stopped working for reasons completely unknown to me and I was back at the point of entrance again.

I know I've been writing for quite a bit now so I will just go to the "grand finale" of my story. I beat my sickness (or at least I think it's a sickness).
I finally found a way of sleeping that works for me, I don't know how is it named but I call it "30:4" which stands for 30 minutes every 4 hours. It's that easy. It is actually a method used by sailors since XV century and currently it's being used by astronauts, soldiers and pretty much everyone who wants to save time. I say save time because you basically sleep 3 hours a day, and it's enough!
All I have to do is take a nap every 4 hours and I'm completely rejuvenated!
At first I though I was thinking that I will get tired of that method and after a week or two I will be forced to return to "normal" way of sleeping.
That never happened :).

I have now been using this technique for over 3 months and I never felt better! I finally feel well slept, I finally can see the sunshine in the morning and get up from bed without feeling like I had a hell of a party yesterday even though I didn't have any! I can do work right after getting up without having to wait till my brain "kick starts" after an hour or so. And as an added bonus my day is way longer now :). When I was at the worst stage of "sleeping issues" days were just running by, now they slowed to a crawl and I like it that way! I don't feel like life is just flowing through my fingers because I spend 10 hours each day for SLEEPING!

So yeah... I just wanted to share my happiness with everyone in the escapist! I feel reborn and... and alive!
If you have the same kind of trouble I have, try it out! It may not work for you but hell if you don't try you won't know!

PS. I hope I won't be accused of spamming nonsense :), I'm just a really happy person right now! ^_^

That's very good. I'm happy for you dude, you found a problem, devised plans of attack and kicked in the ass hard and didn't give up along the way.

I give you a very hearty Tip of my Hat and wish you good luck in the future.

If you find the website for this, post it cause it sounds pretty interesting
I don't have sleep problems, but I can only fall asleep if I'm exausted already so this would be a new thing to try.

That's awesome, actually. Glad to hear you finally got help on that.

I have a somewhat similar story (very loosely similar), but to save time I'll just say this:

Have crazy ADD, finally got meds, meds help in many different aspects of life. I like amphetamines ♥♥♥

Glad that it works for you.

When school hits, it usually takes me a week to establish a very unhealthy cycle that lasts for 10 months. Let's just say I never have any problem waking up at 5:45 in the morning and I never have any problem falling asleep after 2:45 in the morning when school is in session.

God, this is making me feel tired. I just finished one of these stints.

30 minutes is like nothing. do you count the time it takes to fall asleep? i can't fall asleep on command and thenwake up in 30 minutes. that sounds so shitty.
Well I don't have to exactly SLEEP for 30 minutes, I don't think there are people who can just fall asleep on command.
What I'm supposed to do (and what I in fact do) is I just lie down on my bed for a 30 minutes nap, set my telephone to ring in the right time. And than just put a pillow over my eyes (not over my whole face, just so it blocks the light). You might not fall asleep in those 30 minutes but that's not a problem, because you were relaxing through that time and it serves pretty much as well as sleeping.

And after 2 weeks my mind just set to "short nap every 4 hours" mode and now I don't even need to use my phone to wake me up :).

I still recommend you try it, maybe for a week maybe shorter. As long as you don't prolong the nap for more than 30 minutes waking up should not be a problem.
But as I said before this kind of things work differently for everyone, so what might be life saving for me can be completely useless for you.

I now remember how it's named. Google for "Uberman sleep schedule" or wiki it. Name is quite silly but it is widely known.

Anyway I forgot to mention one important thing. The fact that such sleeping method can theoretically be dangerous. I didn't encounter any problems with both my mental and physical health in 2 months of my "test driving" but some experts claim that human body requires enzymes that are created in deeper stage of sleep. Other experts claim that what their co-workers say is a pile of crap and that the technique is perfectly safe.

Whoever is right I might never know. If it turns out that my body needs a good sleep once in a while than I will solve it the easy way, I will just sleep "normally" in the weekends.
And it seems that body automatically adapts to "lack" of said enzymes by making an individual eat things he would normally not eat, or at least not eat in such amounts. I have to say, now that I think of that I suddently really started liking citrus fruits, mainly grapefruit.

But hey! That's more vitamins than I usually get so why the hell not :)
