Sometimes im walking around the city minding my own bussiness and some annoying guy/girl comes to me with some "amazing offer" that is going to waste my time for 5 mins. Those evil flyers . . .
So sometimes i pretend (well i actualy am) from oversees and dont speak ENG for shit/ "Sry i lil spek english" usually does the trick and they leave me alone. In my own country i started talking in ENG to avoid annoying ppl in weird situations. Altho at time i found some smart ppl who knew english so then i was being annoyed in ENG -_-`

So my question is have you guys ever resort to pretending to get away from ppl trying to sell you stuff or just didnt want to talk with some weird stranger?

Of course, anyone with sense would have bought a return ticket to begin with... but those people simply don't exist anymore :p

lol, I live in a spanish speaking country, and I do the same, except that I say "No Hablar Español" and resume talking in english, though this has backfired sometimes, since many ppl here also speaks english as a second language. Lucky for me I also know a bit of french =)

I sometimes put on an act of being able to go deaf at will if I want people to leave me alone.

Yeah, I'm not exactly subtle if people really get on my nerves. Generally I'll be quite patient and listen to their points, but if it gets to the point where I have to tell them to leave me alone for whatever reason, and they don't, I'll just tell them I can do this and stop reacting to what they say to me.

If it comes to random strangers selling me things, I'll usually just say I haven't any money on me. It deals with most of those situations.

Having been both the seller and the sold to, I can agree that the best approach is to say 'Not interested' and hope they have the good sense to walk away; most those people will do so, because it takes less effort to hunt down more people than it does to convince someone who's already said No.

If they don't walk away, ask to see their business license. That'll usually drive them off. If they then show it to you, call the number on the license that you can report harassment to. Otherwise, a police officer does nicely. That -always- works.

I usually just duck my head down and try and walk around them. If they persist, then I apologize and feel really bad about it the rest of the day. :$

I just walk away from them giving my best "I ain't fucking interested" look.

If it's a salesman in a shop and i'm bored ill sometimes stand there and mock their pitiful sales technique with biting sarcasm and wit.

That depends, I'm a sucker for a cute girl... A very cute girl exfoliated my hands for me in an outlet shopping centre recently in an attempt to get me to buy skin care products.

Generally though, I will politely decline without breaking stride saying 'Sorry, not interested'

I usually walk with my headphones in anyway, so I pretend that the music's too loud to hear them.
If they've caught me without my headphones, I just say 'No thanks'. That works pretty well.

I just start shouting at them in German.
It scares a few children, and it makes a few old people (Probably WWII vets) give me the evil eyes, but damn, its awesome!
"Sie werden nicht verkaufen, die zu mir! Ich will, dass an Sie zu verkaufen, du Hure!"
translates to
"You will not sell that to me! I will sell that to you, you whore!"

I shout at the bloody numbnuts. Y'know, the ones with the clipboard and the attitude. Usually I scare them away.
