I was one of the folks that wasn't buying The Orange Box specifically for Portal. If I have to be honest, I bought it for TF2, and money well spent! I'd heard about portal and seen some clips from it and thought it looked good, but I wasn't hyped about it. All I was expecting was a clever puzzle game, but what I got was pretty much the description Yahtzee gave it. Because my expectations weren't particularly high for this game, to have it be so much more made it one of the best games that I have ever played, and it always will be. The ending after destroying GLADos will stick with me forever as one of the best endings I have ever experienced in a game (I'm not talking about the song)****SPOILER WARNING****I'm talking about when you get sucked out of the facility and open your eyes to the outside with the trees breezing and birds chirping, so poweful!***END OF SPOILER***
It all comes down to whether or not you let yourself succumb to hype. More times than not, you'll end up being dissapointed by the finished product because of all the hype. So my advice to the entire gaming community that want to be truly blown away by games is, don't get sucked into the hype! It will be your downfall!
