Merc 2. My god it was awful.
I am ashamed to say it is one of my favorite games ever. I have 9 saves with over 170 hours played. It was glitchy, unfinished, but NOTHING is more fun that plying co-op with a friend in a helicopter and sitting in a tank that is being held by the winch and the destroying an enemy base.

Ok, think I get it but still disagree. Some entertainment is just so awesome it deserves a big pricetag imo. For example: I bought The Witcher on a 5? sale on steam. It was so good I was completely embarassed afterwards for paying so little for it.

If you are looking for pure length I guess you should play almost exclusively jrpgs (or car sims/sports games if you dont tire of the gameplay). They can usually last very long. Personally I'd rather have a short good game than a long mediocre. I'm one of the few (I guess) that found Portal to be exactly long enough. I'd rather it is that way, than drag it on for another couple of hours with bad levels/uninspired story.
many games deserve a high price tag, because the developers have earned the money. its just i think that after playing a game i want it to have worked out quite cheaply in my favour. its less of "I want to pay £1 for 40 hours", more of "I dont want to pay £40 for 5 hours". the major downside of this is that i very rarely buy a game on impulse, and ever rarer by a new release, because it could end up being a dangerous waste of money. thus i mainly stick to reliable developers (gearbox), publishers (thq) and series' (COD). while this means i generally get a good 75% approval on games i play, i can miss out on some excellent games just because i didnt want to risk - lets admit, it all comes down to this - the money.
yep i like jrpgs because of the length, if a bit unimaginitive and either cripplingly simple or distressingly complex (FF8s junction system. after about 10 hours i got it 100%). portals length was definitely impeccable, it didnt water down anything, but it lasted long enough to have definitive growth.

aaahh youve brought back memories there! i forgot about that...made the game a touch too easy though... then again when you start to afford laser guided bombs the whole thing is too simple!

Final Fantasy 13. Considering the amount of money I had to shell out for that thing, it would be nice if I could actually get some gameplay in. Instead I just walk crazy ***** named after static in the sky and co from cutscene to cutscene. Combat was okay though.

Alpha Protocol, gaaaaaaad. It plays like something for PlayStation, and looks just as terrible.

Heh, Lot's of Alpha Protocol hate, I see... Looks like I must be crazy then, because I also bought it at full price, but had a wonderful time with it. I had way more fun with it, than with Mass Effect 2, actually (to avoid some misunderstandings - ME2 was fun as hell to me). Good story, great dialog system, MAGNIFICENT choice system, and decent Deus Ex style gameplay. Me love.

OT: Dragon Age. So many super-positive reviews and opinions made me buy it at full price, a few days after the release... And I regret it to this day. Terrible, terrible, completely generic story (I couldn't actually believe that BioWare made this thing), uninteresting world, boring, piss easy combat (tie up the enemies with your tank, Ice cone your enemies, spam Mage attacks. The end. Works on EVERYONE including bosses), and forgettable characters except Zevran and Morrigan. Absolute letdown, even bigger than HL2.

Bioshock 2, luckily I got all my money back.
also
Dead Space, which I didn't get my money back and is just sitting there not getting played
oh yeah
Time Crisis 4, shoulda just got to an arcade a few times and played that would of been enough.

Nearly had a new crowned champion a few weeks ago, Rugby League Live: I had not done any research I just figured, I love Rugby League and that's enough to warrant me buying it, they don't bring out Rugby League games very often so I was pumped to get it, the day before I went to buy it I saw a review on a games review tv show and they explained what it is like.
OMG its horrible, I was so sad to hear this, I will only buy this game when it becomes $15 or less, which shouldn't take long

Y'know, I don't think I've ever had this problem. Though, I do buy brand new games very rarely. One, maybe two a year even. I do remember when I first bought Blacklight: tango down I felt kinda cheated due to the day-one issues, but when they improved I loved it.

It's gonna happen with the next one I get isn't it?

Lunar: Dragon Song for the DS.

Can't choose targets when attacking? Bwuh?
Have to choose between receiving items and money after battles or receiving EXP? Um...
Dashing instead of walking on the field map consumes HP? *urk*

What's worse is that I bought it as a gift to a younger relative, who within a day made me try it, thinking that I hated him for buying him such filth. My wallet has yet to forgive me for that impulse buy...
