Ah!

So after failing my second year in college last year, repeating and failing the summer exams again, I finally got through on the supplementals, and with that by passing everything. I even got a first in one of the things I failed a few months prior. I guess finally studying helps out with these things! It's happy times as it was essentially my last chance, and if I failed that was it.

For discussion, does anyone have any similar close shaves with the dreaded exams?
Do you get by with the grind or practice in the art of extraordinary bullshitting as I do?

I bullshit. Unlike you though, I get A's.

If there's one thing I'm good at, its 'spin' and bullshit.

Yay! I'm so glad that you did well. :) You're definitely a smart person, so I'm not surprised that since you applied yourself you managed it.

Weey, congratulations :)!

I remember I passed my GCSE's without studying, and while drunk... I have no idea how I did it.

Congrats dude. It's good that you're still in college, and having just started myself, it's a great place to be. I do hope you've taken something from this though, even if it's realising that you might need to up you game, so to speak.

Honestly, there are other ways of passing exams than just grinding or bullshitting (although the second has served me well in many an english essay). Revise regularly, make sure you know your stuff, make good notes, listen in class, ask the teacher if you don't understand something. Having just been through my GCSE's a few months ago, I know that the last minute grind can be excruciating.

My advice is the same as the advice I got from people who took their exams before me: Start early with the revision. If the exams are in June, start revising at Easter at the latest, if it's at Christmas, start in September. I didn't follow that advice, and it made the revision so much harder :p

Anyway, sorry for that rant, I'm bored and tired and annoyed that Amazon can't seem to ship anything quickly. Still waiting for my copy of Halo: Reach :)

Oh, and personally, bullshitting is the way to go with any essay concerning language ;)

Congrats dude :).
I tend to do worse than i should because i have a short attention span and always go off on Tangents on my Exams. Although i can usually pass exams without revising by Bullshitting, studying does help me get good marks though.

What is this "passing college exams" of which you speak? I have no experience of it.

Good work man. I like hearing stories like that. It warms the cockles of my heart.

OT: I managed to make a decent looking model house for homework in three hours

Aw congratulations! I left my final year exam revision until 4 days before the exam (bad idea, most of my friends spent at least a month revising) I spent the whole four days cramming revision for two exams and didn't much sleep. But I managed to pass with a really good grade, I still have no idea how I managed it.

Oh pfft. Luck has nothing to do with it. Logical sequence of events.

Wing it! Goes badly.
Wing it! Goes badly.
STUDY! Goes well.

Smart is a matter of ability to learn, willingness to learn, correct judgement of situations, and knowledge in its basic form. (2+2=4). Basic knowledge is a given - you passed. Correct judgement too, you knew that you had to study. Willingness to learn, you -did- study, and ability to learn, through studying you acquired knowledge. Other people fall back on 'talent'. Hate the word, myself. Meaningless invention used to 'other' achievers, put them outside the level of attainment that mere mortals can attain.

Heh, well willingness to learn is way, way, way down on my list of abilities.
Your logic is compelling though. :D

I know what you mean :p

They tell you "most important exams of you life!!! STUDY HARD" for every exam from the age of 5 up. When you get to 11 you realise you you dont need to study to pass, when you get to 13 you realise they really arnt that import, when you do your GCSE's you coast em so still dont study and still think they are unimportant, then when you hit either AS, A2 or degree level suddenly you cant pass without studying and when you fail first time, realise that these ones, unlike the ones they preached to you when you were younger really ARE important, potentially life defining and you end up burning a year to learn.

I was like you. Failed my first year of college in maths. Scraped though the AS in my second year and then worked my ass off for a decent grade in A2.

Grats man, and be thankful you learnt now. In uni, thats a £7.5k lesson to learn.

That's the thing though, I was repeating the year this year. So I have learnt it the hard way. :/

Congratulations man.

I did quite well in school, but honestly, I couldn't bullshit my way out of a paper bag. My success was pretty much entirely due to finding one thing that I actually enjoyed learning and doing work for. Every course I took that required a good amount bullshit I only squeaked by in.

Value your ability. VALUE IT I SAY
