More Clarification I was answering a friends question in why i use my own name and im not ashamed and because the Escapist gave me a megaphone I told everyone and I sincerely apologize.

If you do an internet search of my username you could probably know my name, age, and where I live. I'm not exactly anonymous. It doesn't really change much whether you use your real name or a pseudonym.

My username might as well be my real name. I like it better, and it's what I'd like to be called when I meet...internet people.

Dude, people can still do that. Using a pseudonym online isn't so much an accountability issue as it is a privacy thing. I mean, I didn't get my Morpheus badge, to say nothing of the Forum Regular one, by breaking rules, and yet I post under a screen name. The only (non-school related) account I use my real name on is my Facebook account, and even that I have set to Friends only on just about everything. I just don't like complete strangers knowing too much about me, and I think most people who post under a pseudonym do so for that reason.

What most people here fail to realize is that if you post with your real name anyone who Googles you can find pretty much everything you've been up to on the internet. Which means that you are taking far more responsibility for what you say.

Unless of course you use your username for pretty much everything and anybody who has ever come into contact with you knows about your username. Then it doesn't really matter.
