Can we also correct your spelling? Like the fact that you used "thou," as in "Thou art using bad spelling," instead of "though," the word you probably meant to use.

Seriously though, if feel like you have to give up anonymity in order to feel like you're going to be responsible for what you say here, and to behave well, doesn't that say more about you than it does about us? There's a debate that could be had about how anonymous any of actually are here anyways, but even forgetting that, I am still the person I am here, and when I act like a dick and realize it in retrospect, I still feel bad about it. Just because I'm anonymous doesn't mean I'm not interacting with real people, and just because I can't see someone upset when I say something hurtful, doesn't mean I can't feel bad when I realize how much of an ass I was.

To paraphrase something one of my teachers used to say, real honesty is about the things you do when no one can ever find out. It's not about others holding you to a standard, it's about you holding yourself to a standard. Putting a face and a name to words won't do that.

My username has spilled over into my normal life to the point of being called by it with people I've known for years. This is because I use it pretty much everywhere.

Well... You would get the same result by telling the people you know irl your online name, because with just a name people still wouldn't recognise you in the outside world. And there is no way of knowing with certainty that it is in fact your real name. And it makes it slightly easier for someone with bad intentions to find out your details and fuck with you, to intensities ranging from prank mail to identity theft.

So... whoop-de-doo. When you post under your real name with you're avatar as an expandable picture of you holding photo ID and a birth certificate, I will be impressed. I will also start taking bets as to how many hours it will take for someone to get your bank details and suck you dry like a starved vampire genetically merged with a plutonium-powered super vacuum.

My money is on two and a half.

Thank you for proving my point (that using your real name will not force you to act with something resembling maturity) by choosing to respond with what was clearly a well thought out reply, as opposed to just the first joke that came to mind to attempt to diffuse what I had to say.

So why don't I do it? to be honest My given name is just as much an alias as my forum name is.

I do, because I don't care, since I know no-one among us will betray my trust in them.

After all, some people know how twisted I am.

Yes, because everyone on the net is going to know who you are seeing as there is only one Evan Mott to ever have existed... ever.

Rather a silly thing to brag about really.

Most peoples anonymity here has nothing to do with wishing not to be thought of as foolish in real life, but rather that they don't want everybody to know their name. Just because of companies selling the info on etc. For some, it's not even that. I usually either put my first or full name in the information of the sites I join.

Really. This entire thread is just a wank in the ether. There's no discussion value and you're just bragging about some inane little factoid as if it makes you special or something.
Sir Have you realized that you just complained about being smug by acting smug?
