I think the only time someone sheds internet anonymity and starts taking some responsibility for what they say is if they've stuck with one name/persona for several years - on several different boards. If people recognise you between one place and another, or can google your name and come up with fifty pages of crap that you once said, then you've got something of a reputation to answer to.

So basically, try using your real name for the next five or ten years so that you're TRULY responsible for everything you say IRL and out. Then it might be worth bragging about.

My real name is David Driscoll, Its boring, common, and there for still makes me unaccountable.
Besides my brother is on here quite a bit and can read my posts at anytime. Acting normal on the internet isn't that hard anyways.

I think having a Facebook or Myspace account is more 'responsible'.

Especially because people post messages that seem like they think they're still anonymous...then they wonder why they got fired for calling their boss a 'shit-faced asswipe who works at craptastic incorporated'

Edit: If my boss is reading this right now, I LOVE YOU AND THE COMPANY! PLEASE DON'T HURT ME!

Completely pointless. I've never understood the significance people attach to using real names on the internet. For one, there's no way to verify that it's authentic in most cases. But more importantly, barring exceedingly uncommon names, most are far, far from a unique identifier.

If you accomplished anything by using your real name, it was making identity theft a tiny bit easier. Lack of any sort of unique and authenticated identifier prevents your "bravery" from really meaning anything.

But now if i say something dumb or racist, people can correct me off of the escapist. Even thou I would not
You see many Escapists in passing on the street? Lucky you.
My username might as well be my real name. I like it better, and it's what I'd like to be called when I meet...internet people.
Same here. It doesn't help that my first name makes me incredibly stalkable...

But Redlin has components of my real name in it and 5 is my favorite number. It feels like a real name to me.

I still use various usernames because I'm an obsessive fan of certain things, but my real name is always proudly displayed on my profile. Go ahead, go check. It's right there, along with a picture of me and my adorable baby daughter. I hide nothing!!

I wanna be like you when I grow up.

Actually, I accept full responsibility for everything I say, because everything I say is great.
