Okay, from what i have played so far i am not very impressed.

For starters this game claims that you can "play it how you want." Well that couldn't be farther from the truth. This is a stealth game plain and simple; you just get to choose whether it is a game where u shoot people that know your around there somewhere, shoot people that have no idea your there, or u can choose to not kill people but instead put them into a magical coma with your non lethal pistol/tazer and tranq rifle. But what you cannot do under any circumstance is stand up and stop using their stupid ass fucking cover system, more on that later, because u will die instantly.

but u know what i dont give a frak if the game doesn't want to give me choice as long as the gameplay im pigeonholed into is good. I actually LIKE stealth games. The splinter cell games are great fun. I love metal Gear Solid. I've played every single Bethesda game as a sneak character, ive played 3 SOCOM games, i played stalker like a kneay ghost dishing out Ukranian justice and honestly u could list a trillion more examples; basically stealth games are my shit. So i start this game with the intention of playing it how they want me to and after about an hour or so i realize how freaking dumb the AI is and how stupid the EXP distribution is.

lets start with the "AI" and all the wonderful intelligence they have been blessed with. basically every single enemy i have come across has one single set path where they walk between one or 2 points, stopping occasionally. They never deviate at all or have any sort of realistic rhyme or reason to how they are moving. They cant seem to see anything u do except for randomly every once and a while when they are nowhere near u. They can hear up to about 3 feet away from themselves. unless u dare try to kill someone with a melee attack. Heaven forbid u harm a human being(but we will get back to that) Basically if u are crouching and u arent directly in front of someone u could follow them around their entire patrol route without them noticing. 2 people are in a room less than 10 feet from each other. No problem just melee on then walk over and melee the other. Stealth AI is notoriously bad but this is just a joke.

but i guess the thing that pisses me off most of all, is that certain gameplay types actually get more experience than others.u get MORE experience for not killing someone(remember the magical coma). and u get loads more experience for meleeing someone but make sure u do a nonlethal melee attack because ure character has to kill people in the noises way possible. because u know getting stabbed is way noisier than getting the shit beaten out of you. This makes no sense.

and the controls are just freaking awful. U have no choice but to use toggle iron sights, when u stick to cover u cant peek with the iron sight button but u have to move to the edge. the melee button and cover change button do different things depending on if u hold or tap them/ The sprint is a joke. most of the upgrades are pointless and feel like they should have been unlocked from the beginning.

Oh and the voice acting is shitty but u cant tell because the idle animations during conversations look like the character has parkinsons 50 percent of the time.

The music and art are nice tho. I guess that is a plus. So ya someone please tell me what im doing wrong or why I'm wrong.

Oh and forgive the vulgar, offensive, and seemingly illiterate appearance of my message. I am tired and upset that i wasted my time and money on this and it is literally keeping me up right now. Hopefully i can get some sleep now that this is off my chest.

Dude, Completely uncalled for...

There are some legitimate concerns there but i've had moderate success as a pistol specialist. Silencer + laser sight + Headshot = win. But yeah, there is a large emphasis on stealth, but i kinda like that. you should be carfeul when sneaking into a heavily armed area. Going in guns blazing would (arguably should) get you pretty much killed.

I'm having fun tho, teh social enhancer has opened up that game alot as far as i'm concerned. I do feel cheated by the sprint upgrade tho.

I also like sneaking around in firefights; it just makes more sense. What i was criticizing was the fact that the game advertises choice of playstyle as one of its strengths.

You have to play it for more than 5 minutes before you can fully evolve your own playstyle. That is rather the point of having weapon mods and augmentations.

Although the shooting is based around being methodical and careful. Cover and half-decent planning are essential if you want to get your Rambo on.

Hey OP !

I agree with every single point you made, this game has been an utter disappointment to me also, mainly because the cover system is so goddamn retarded and the controls are weird as fuck.

Otherwise the power suit is sort of meh too, but what pisses me right the fuck off are the HUMONGOUS loading times and the utterly retarded need to save game NOW after killing a single person - since you are as fragile as benjamin button

i played it for a good 7 or so hours. But whenever i go to do anything combat or stealth related i just feel like splinter cell conviction did it better.

When the Escapist has hundreds of "I HATE DRAGON AGE 2 BECUZ" threads they read 10 pages of the same drivel that's been recited hundreds of times

When this guy says he doesnt like Human Revolution you call him "A retarded Neckbeard virgin" and don't even try refuting his points.

I agree with this guy, he makes a lot of valid points. Though he likely didn't play the original Deus Ex which had even stupider AI (If you can believe that).

I actually enjoyed Human Revolution's gameplay but I agree with all your points, it is still a flawed game. I disagreed with the storyline more then the gameplay but that was just my opinion.

Also OP you didn't mention the shitty boss battles.

I don't really like it either so far because I havent got enough experience to get augmentations that mean I can do anything but stealth, and for some reason I seem to suck at stealth in first person, even though I planned to do the stealth route in this game.

Also, with metal arms you'd think I could at least hold up my arm to block some bullets, because it's really easy to die.

@elcher
at least im not alone in this ^_^ I mean i could see how people COULD like it but there's all this talk of it being a contender for GOTY. and a lot of reviews give it 9 out of 10. I feel that nostalgia has blinded the world.

I've seen way more people that say "This game makes the original game look like utter SHIT" then i've seen the other way around.

I mean boss battles was just way to much for me to comprehend, who exactly thought it was a good idea? The only people i can see that defend boss battles claim "Every FPS needs boss battles, there havent been any good ones since Quake"

You should use the quote tool, very confusing to tell who you are talking too. I also think you need the armor, and leg augments to actually go guns blazing. I was pretty upset that going non-lethal gives more xp.

Ok, ok, I think it's time for me to step in.

Knobody13, you do have some valid points, and yeah human revolution doesn't allow you to play ANY way you want, you have to understand that gaming just hasn't come that far yet, and this game was bound to be under some constraints, if you really don't like the game, don't fret about it and get a refund, theres no need to try and change people's views of the game.

Oh, and Mike-O, please don't start slinging s*** over a person's opinion, as everyone is entitled to have one, we are civilized people and its the 21st century, so please just get along.

@lord royal

I know this may seem contradictory; but i actually like the story. Its just the virtual performance i have found wanting. I think Bioware has spoiled me.

The original Deus Ex gave you plenty ways to play it however you wanted. The game allowed you to go guns blazing quite easily if you say grabbed enough thermoptic camo and the regeneration aug, you were a literal walking tank, or you could play the game without a single NPC seeing you.

And that game came out in 2001.

I definitely agree that it's WAY to easy to die. Seriously, enemies have drained my health in about 1 second. Have you dried the armor upgrades? I haven't, but they might help. And the takedown system, while not being very logical, is at least visceral and satisfying. I think the "Straightforward kill everyone method" works better when you go into a room with the intention of killing everyone. When I resort to shooting someone, it's usually because I fucked up the stealth, and I'm way too close for comfort. But if I go into the room with shooting them as my default plan, then I'll usually be on the opposite side of the room from them, and I'll have more time to pick them off. Overall, I like the game quite a bit, though it does feel like the game pops up it's collar and refuses to look at me if I don't put enough points into hacking.

Did you like the boss battles in MGS? I found them much more real, and fun even though they ripped u out of stealth mode.
