So, for a history presentation I did all my work and completed my assignment in my group. Then, on the day it was due, I e-mailed it to myself and asked a group member if they could put it on an(a?) USB to print-off as I was working on something else on a friend's laptop. No problems arose.

Now it's been 2 weeks and my history teacher said she and I plagiarised our work. She says she recognises my writing style, and is pretty sure I wrote it, but she thinks I lent my work to her to have the girl in my group, rip off. I'm still getting marks for it, but it's split two ways, therefore I'm failing that assignment.

Lastly, the girl and I were kinda friendly, I'm dating her best friend, but now I don't know if I want to talk to her or be friendly at all.

Help me out Escapist, please.

EDIT: So the situation just resolved itself. She admitted to my history teacher, and I'm no getting full marks.

Tell the teacher what you told us, have fight with that girl to let her know you wont tolerate such sh*t, and eat a bananana.

I did tell the teacher, I'm thinking of brining in my laptop to show her the original files.

You win some you lose some.

Just maintain that you didn't plagiarize but if she insists on punishing you, well that's all you can do. Unless failing this assignment will cause you to fail the course I wouldn't worry about it.

If that ***** is trying to play you call her out in class. Go to your teacher and tell her what you posted here during class and if she tries to be like "We can speak about this after class" be like "No, we can speak about it now because this ***** is fucking with my grade".

Explain it the best you can to the teacher and possibly invite the girl in question to give her side of the story. If she lies, follow her home and threaten her with a three foot long dildo bat to tell the truth next time.

Seriously, get her to cooperate with you in talking about what happened.

if you've got any sort of proof, you shouldn't be afraid to show it as you don't deserve what's happening. Talking to the girl might also help clear any issues. Have you seen the other girl's assignment? Was it actually plagiarised?

Bring in your laptop and show the teacher the original work. If that doesn't help, confront the girl.

Working in group, sending files around to print-off USB while working on something else on someone else's laptop.
Then an unknown 'she' is introduced. And another 'girl in the group'.

*Confused*
Sorry, didn't explain that the best I could. She was in my group from the start. I gave her the file on HER USB to print off, while I worked on some homework for another class. Then she plagiarised my work.

The 'a' or 'an' rules is by ear, not strictly by word beginnings, especially for acronyms.. A USB is proper grammar.

Just bring in the laptop with the files and you'll be fine.

To be clear you gave her your assignment and she plagiarized it?

Depending on you school's academic integrity polices you could be just as guilty as her. You not knowing she would copy you work is not an excuse.

Explain the situation to your girlfriend, ask her to talk her friend and get her to confess.

It's 'a' USB drive. You use an/a depending on whether the next word sounds like a vowel or consonant. Also, you're kinda screwed. Consider this a lesson about having other people handle your work, and get on with your life.

Do that, if you have evidence, you win.
