I met Ralph Fiennes randomly at Bondi here in Sydney.

My girlfriend was all "I saw you onstage in an Isben play at a tiny little theatre in Stratford London a few years ago... it was awesome and I think you're really great... Isben is just wonderful isn't he?" ...and so on.

Meanwhile I'm standing there like "Heh ...it's Voldemort"

I think he'd have preferred us to leave him alone to be honest.

My local town is literally packed with look alikes

I've seen:

George Lucas - In Costa (not actually him)

Robert Downey Jr - In Staples (not actually him)

And I see the real Richard Hammond all the time...No seriously, he actually lives in one of the big houses outside of town..We ate dinner next to him and his family in a restaurant ^_^

--------------
My dad often meets and see's really big famous people. Around a year ago he sat next to Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in a restaurant

One of the teaching staff in the English department at Aberystwyth University looks like Gary Oldman.

I saw Jackie Chan in Hong Kong once, when he was filming. My mother started pointing and shouting out the taxi window. He laughed and waved, while I put my head in my hands. Nice guy.

Living in the village makes it kinda easy... I've repeatedly (like 3 or4 times) seen Matthew Broderick at the same intersection near the 14th street subway while coming home from school when I was in high school, and saw Hugh Jackman in a restaurant one time, it was definitely him, it was a really nice place that my family went to for a special occasion. Also, apparently David Duchovny went to my high school, not while I went there, but I think I saw him in the lobby once.

I think I saw Mel Gibson when they were filming the movie Signs (part of it was filmed in my hometown!)... though it might have been a body double, I dunno.

Actually, other family members have had better luck in that regard. My mom was friends in High School with Bill Beretta (who did work with Muppets), and my uncle, in his youth, served ice cream to Joe Pispaco.

I also have family who lives in Los Angeles, and have had encounters with famous people.or instance, my cousin - who has aspirations of being a musician - recorded music in the same studio as Coldplay.

Between There and There.

The Wide, Brown One.
Hmmm... long list, when I think about it.

Lessee...

Ben Elton at the pub. I said "Hey, you look a fuck of a lot like Ben Elton." He said "Yeah, it's one of the drawbacks of being Ben Elton." I said "Bullshit you're Ben Elton" and he pulled out his passport and showed me.

Ben Folds at a supermarket. I asked him if he could move so I could grab some toilet paper... I only realised it was him later when I was standing behind him at the checkout and the bird working the register went all "OMG! You're Ben Folds! "

Geoffery Rush at a bottleshop. He was buying a nice bottle of Pinot Noir, if memory serves. I asked if he was Geoffery Rush, he said yes and I said I liked a lot of his work. He thanked me, paid for his wine, and left.

Henry Rollins in the pub beer garden. Told him he was shorter than I thought he'd be.

Nick Cave at the pub, told him to stop sitting on the fucking pool table

The guys from Mudhoney at the pub, who mistook me for pub security and asked me if I could get Nick Cave to stop sitting on the pool table (the pub was serving as an after-'show' spot for bands from a festival... I met a shitload of people there but that incident always amuses me)

As for look-alikes, one that sticks with me was one of my Uni professors for International Studies was a deadringer for Tom Clancy.

I have a ton of friends who are professional musicians, and when you hang around them enough you tend to meet big names. Three years ago I've talked to Ben Folds about macaroni for two minutes and I've high fived Mika after my friend opened up for him a few months ago. Other than that, My aunt showed a picture of me when talking to rapper Gorilla Zoe and apparently he laughed and called me a "goofy looking lil nigga".

Back in the day when I was in high school, Michael Jordan showed up...granted his kid did go to the school, so it kind of made sense he would be there.
