I spent my first significant amount of time on MW3 multiplayer tonight

And I must say, its completely broken.

The following is my opinion on this matter mostly because I need to vent and haven't seen any significant discussion of this yet.

I've spent the last two years defending COD as a franchise simply because I enjoyed the single player campaign. But I can not excuse the crap they put out for this game.

The kill streaks and perks are completely broken, even more so than they were in MW2. And pretty much all of the features they touted as new are ones you have to work your ass off level griding to get. Even all of the game modes are locked until you get to level 20, which for someone like me is about 6 hours of crap.

I like Hardcore mode because it negates a lot of the bullshit the rest of the game gives and that takes until level 19 to unlock. I had to trudge through 19 levels of bullshit stair/floor glitchers, getting shot through walls and camping quick-scopers to get there.

It's better now that I can play Hardcore, but it makes me mad that I had to work so hard to get there. And not only that, what the hell happened to all the "team based" games they promised? Kill Confirmed? Bah. Not a team game. Everything is still "kill this many people to get this weapon/attachment". That doesn't exactly promote teamwork.

I feel better. So, for a discussion, was MW3 what you thought it was going to be? How was it different? Do you agree or disagree with my stated opinions on it? And finally, if you know how to help with some common problems (like glitchers and campers) state them.

Edit: Three things I forgot to include:
1. the team making system sucks. I ALWAYS end up on the team of misfits when it puts all of the clans and parties together on the other teams so they can work together perfectly.
2. the spawn system sucks. waiting fifteen seconds to spawn right in the middle of a firefight only to get killed instantly is not fun. At all.
3. The maps are simply reworked versions of MW2 maps. Literally. They are laid out EXACTLY the same just with different skins and furnishings.

I do agree for the most part, though I didn't see many hackers/glitchers when I was playing a few weeks ago. Admittedly, I was playing soon after the game came out so it may be a more common problem at this point. The game is fairly broken but still entertaining when you manage to do well. I will say that Kill Confirmed at least cuts down on campers since you actually have to move around, but if people are glitching and hacking it negates the purpose altogether.

It's the same old shit, and I expected it to be the same old shit, so I won't be playing it nearly as frequently as I played MW2 and Black Ops.

Thankfully, my brother will be getting MW3 for the PS3, so there "should" be less hackers experienced, but I could be wrong. Either way, i'm mainly going to play Survival, Spec Ops, and some of the Singleplayer. The Multi is just horrible in my mind's eye. Probably because I'm not a very competitive person.

I actually enjoyed MW2 quite a lot, and was disappointed by MW3.

Certain design choices in the campaign were just confusing;

Is it really that difficult to make Nikolai look the same as he did at the end of MW2? I mean come on, did he go through puberty, shave and then get plastic surgery on the helicopter ride over to India? Kamarov was also given a voice and appearance change and was given a crappy and insignificant role in the game compared to CoD4. Mac Millan has also changed voice actors and is now just some guy who talks over the radio.

I was also hoping that Foley and his squad would return, but instead they just get some small reference in the loading screen of one mission. And the actual Americans were completely forgettable; Sandman was boring, Truck and Grinch had no personality at all and Frost literally disappears towards the end of the campaign.

As for multiplayer, not only are the maps extremely dull but they all seem like they were specifically designed for camping. There is a spot where you can hide around every corner and the spawning is horrible, I actually remember spawning right behind someone once.

My gf bought it as I already had BF3 and I played it with her for a while. I was immediately reminded why I switched my allegiance. Basically its because of everything you just said. I don't mind dying in a video game, what I mind is being quick scoped by a guy with a sniper rifle from 10 yards away (which for MW3 is a VERY long shot.

I don't understand why they locked the game modes. I suppose it was so gamers would be forced to not be total noobs if they played hardcore, but really, how dumb do they think the average gamer is? If you get your ass kicked in easy/normal mode why in the hell would you play something titled "hardcore"?

The thing that really broke it for me though is the very rushed feeling I had while playing it. I could never settle into my gamer comfort zone. I constantly was swiveling my head around 360 degrees for fear of getting shot, not unusual for a shooter. What I found unusual was the sheer amount of places I thought I was pretty well hidden and I would die and I was shocked at how quickly you die. I blame both the level design for this and the weapons themselves. Why on earth would I use a new gun when I have already tricked out one that is doing the job? As for the levels, where are the massive levels? You know the big ones where it takes more than 3 seconds to run halfway across the map? I would spawn and sprint for while it lasted and find myself on the other side of the map. It wasn't fun for me, it was stressful.

What may have ruined it for me though is that I was comparing it to BF3 the whole time. Probably not a good choice, but I couldn't help it. I liked the new mode though, spec ops or survival or whatever its called. At least then I can yell at my partner sitting next to me and not at the 12 year olds.

I'm getting it for the SP and Co-op. I don't expect the MP to be improved at all. The community for Call of Duty is beyond fucked and has fucked the franchise as well.
I bring you a chart.

I know it says why I won't join your movement, but it applies for any large forum or community.

The community is actually 90% of the reason why I'll never play MW3 multi. It just pisses me off to hear little fucking brats *****. It pisses me off to hear fucking moron grown ups rage at something that truly does not matter. I don't care that it's broken, I don't care that it's cheap, I'll use fairer than absolutely cheap tactics and still end up with a positive K/D. It actually got to a point in the original MW that I decided to use the m-14 just for challenge sake and found out that it was my favorite gun due to the simple premise of double tap.

I prefer MW2 to Black ops and MW3. I can't help but miss black ops economy though. At first I hated it but I miss being able to just by extended mags rather then being confined to using only on gun just to level it up. Think I'm gonna return MW3 and focus on BF3. Vehicles...nuff said.

I agree. The campaign was a half of a half-assed attempt. So I guess it was a quarter of an ass attempt.
Regardless, the story made even less sense than MW2 and it felt like they just strung a bunch of events and shit together without even bothering to look at it and see if it made sense. I mean, how in the holy hell did Russia invade ALL OF EUROPE at the SAME DAMN TIME and no one know about it? I think even Yahtzee made a comment about that. And then on top of that, they used chemical weapons on civilian populations and then at the end simply make peace without any repercussions?
Those are just off the top of my head, two major things that at least needed to be addressed, even if it was implausible and stupid (like one missing ACS satellite allowing them to hack the US defense grid).

I can get the unlocking of weapons and attachments... I may be late at hearing about this, but the whole "play to unlock game-mode" is a VERY bad idea... ESPECIALLY if you have to unlock hardcore mode, the ONLY thing that made MW2 multiplayer barely playable in my eyes. I am enjoying BF3 now. If I had to unlock the hardcore mode by getting to lvl 19, I would NOT be... I'm barely above level 10 (don't think I'm that even) because as a gamer with lots of other things to do, there simply is not enough time to play several hours every day. People like me are dependant upon getting a decent amount of content at the start. I could deal with other having better weapons than me in BF3 and MW2, cause the gap wasn't that big. I shudder at the thought of playing the regular game-mode though X3.

Have not yet bought MW3, and I'm not intending to as of now. This is a game that I feel I MUST try before deciding to put any money in it, and from what I've heard from friends and others I'm not expecting to put much money into it =p.

Not everyone is naturally good at video games (me) nor do many people have the time to spend on them to get really good at them (me again).

I commend you for being good at the game and having a positive KD ratio, but you can't apply that to everyone. I don't want to have to spend 100 hours leveling up and and trudging through bullshit to get to a skill point where I am good enough to have fun. Becuase those hundred hours are NOT fun for me.

Normally I can get behind unlocking weapons and attachments too, but the absolute killer for me in this game (and in MW2) was the sheer effectiveness of them. Try to go head to head with someone running around with an EBR (level 60 i believe) while you've got an M4 or SCAR (both starting weapons) and let me know how that works for you.

And I completely agree with you on Hardcore. It made the came at least playable so having to level through 19 just to gain access to it was sickening.

I think that was due to the fact that the US government discovered that Makarov was behind the war and chemical attacks, and the Russian President was actually trying to end the war but couldn't because of Makarov.

1. Most clans/teams are in parties, so OF COURSE the game is going to put them together. Seriously, I'd be pretty pissed if I couldn't play with my friends just because the game deemed it to the an unfair advantage. It's really stupid of you to complain about that.

2. Yeah, the spawns fucking sucked. IW promised to fix them at some point but I'm pretty fucking tired of people spawning in my rectum. Why is it that it seems the only place people spawn is always DIRECTLY BEHIND ME?!

3. I disagree. Maps in MW2 were better. The maps in MW3 don't have enough openness or lines of sight. Everything is just hallways and tight corners and it pisses me off. Why is there nothing like Rundown?! There are some decent maps in MW3, like Fallen, but not nearly enough. Too many of the maps are also ruined by the terrible spawning system and imbalanced objective points (looking at you Arkaden).

I dont mean having one clan or party. I mean it put ALL of them. I played a game earlier tonight where is put Party A with three people, Party B with three people and Party C with two people on the blue team and then put all of us misfit single players on the red team.
Needless to say, we got our asses kicked completely. The score was like 15 to 65.

Then how and when did Makarov obtain control of the entire Russian military?

I'm going to assume after he captured the President.

After that I guess he then used the President to control the military.

I don't think the perks are broken at all. I think they work just fine, or I'm missing something and that's why people can turn and find while running full stealth (silencer, blind eye, assassin, dead silence).

Some of the guns need a bit of nurfing though. Here's a list:
Type 95
PP90M1
FMG9 (dual)

That's all I can think of right now. I try to play with my friends as much as I can. I hate randoms. This helps avoid shitty teams. We're good enough that we can pull the weight of a shitty teammate or two.

Also, it takes you 6 hours to get to level 20?
