I used to drop insane amounts of money on 40k, then later Warmachine which was cheaper and I loved the models a hell of a lot more. But I did play a lot of 40k for a good while. In the end though, the over-the-top lore just didn't interest me at all. Sure, a galaxy based around war, bleak future and all just didn't immerse me much. Plus the books were awful droning wastes of my time (much like attempting to read the Wheel of Time series but for different reasons).
I had fun playing, my wallet however didn't and I was eventually forced for financial reasons to quit and sell off the massive amounts of figures I had. All painted up nice and pretty too. I never recouped the expenses completely but I did pay off a lot of bills.

I don't think you even understood what you posted, jesus you took the conversation and went at warp ten to the left of it.

There's nothing to misunderstand, you saw something you liked being attacked and you jumped on the attacker like a loyal hound dog. Congrats.

You then attempt to make it seem like you know better by making half baked points and then accusing the other person of "not getting it" (As evidenced by your posts with me and the reply to another guy in the same post)
I would not mind if you bashed War40k you knew what you were talking about.

You keep talking about War40k's "story" when it's a setting. You have not read a single novel despite given several recommendations. You have a very loose grasp on the lore.

Then YOU came on and made a thread insinuating that people who like War40k are retarded manchildren. Moreover, YOU took on a position of superiority DEMANDING that fans explain themselves to you, following up with a declaration that you will never "take it seriously". It's a fantasy setting. What do you want from it?
Stop with the story shit, yes, I used the wrong word. You know what I meant though dear god.

I didn't demand, I asked.
You could have very easily walked away from the thread, I wouldn't have sent the storm troopers after you.

And I want it to stop taking itself seriously
Since the thread I actually have found a certain entertainment in the Orks and some of the ridiculousness.
But it starts to lose my attention when it takes itself to be a supah serious sci fi setting.

I like 40k myself but it hard to take a universe seriously when their machines are repaired though the power of prayer.
You do realise its not literal prayer, but to them, knowledge and technology is the religion right? They just say a prayer as they're repairing. Preparing a machine for battle is actual diagnostics and loading, but it has become a ritual. Its actually really quite an interesting take on religion.
yeah i realize some of the prayers/rituals are like that the lasgun litanies for example but then they have prayer censors and such for bigger operations that have little to do with actually fixing the tech.
Toll the Great Bell Once!
Pull the Lever forward to engage the
Piston and Pump...
Toll the Great Bell Twice!
With push of Button fire the Engine
And spark Turbine into life...
Toll the Great Bell Thrice!
Sing Praise to the
God of All Machines

Basically, instructions on how to restart a stalled engine.
Originally, the extra praying stuff was to fool everyone else into thinking only the Adeptus Mechanicus could deal with technology, to get a monopoly. Then they kind of forgot themselves, and so firmly believe that the praying is fully necessarily. It's just an example of how humans will venerate basically anything as a spirit or such, under the right circumstances.
