I think EA/Bioware are blatantly trolling now.

That's one way of putting it, I guess. It's like how the Titanic provoked a bigger cruise line passenger reaction than any other ship in maritime history.

(captcha: "Gotham City." Awesome. That's a step up from the car ads, at least.)

EDIT: Hey, look, Forbes is calling them on it [http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/04/15/mass-effect-3-ending-provoked-a-bigger-fan-reaction-than-any-other-in-video-game-history/].

The words themselves give no clue about the fan reaction; but juxtaposed with all those perfect scores, how could there be any doubt? Obviously fans loved the game, and especially its conclusion.

They loved the ending more than any other ending in modern gaming's history.

PR's gonna PR. Nobody who hasn't recently gotten out of a 30 year coma should be surprised.

They're not wrong though are they? There wouldn't have been such a reaction if people didn't care so much about the game.

Seems intentionally misleading. Someone unknowing would go into that expecting something epic, only to be let down by a bland ending that leaves you with more questions and is full of plot holes the size of the sun.

What a bunch of assholes. If that image is genuine then EA has absolutely no respect for their customers. Which in return means we should boycott everything they make or publish.

Well, everything in that add is technically correct. "Perfect" is a matter of opinion, and while I wouldn't call the game perfect (and not just because of the ending, but other things too), I would say it's pretty darn good. And as far as I know there has been no game that has ever made fans talk this much about it's ending.
Please note, however, that they don't say that most of the talk about the ending is bad. A clever ad campaign indeed, because, again, none of it is false.

I for one find that pretty funny.

No doubt whoever put it up had a good chuckle about it.

It's just like what someone once brought up to me years ago at how certain quotes work.

Quote
"It's amazing...!"

The entire sentence
"It's amazing how they can take a beloved childrens' book and make just a horrendous movie out of it!"

Technically, the quote is still what the person said, but...

That's a typical EA move. It isn't stupid, I'll give them that.
It's a typical marketing move.

Really, why would anyone expect any different? They're not going to come out and say "don't buy our game because the ending isn't great".

They know how to "properly" word the largest cockup in gaming history, I will give them that.

Also - shouldn't EA start dropping thermonuclear bombs during harsh winters? Since those things can certainly provoke bigger heat production than any other weapon's detonation in warfare's history. :)

I genuinely wonder if there still anyone out there who honestly thinks Electronic Arts care about satisfying their customers rather than simply selling as many products as possible (=at all costs).
