If they follow the letter of the law, yes it should be banned. Several big sacks of money from Sony will persuade the government otherwise.

When I first heard that Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification or banned or whatever in Australia, it came to me as no surprise. While I certainly wasn't predicting it to happen, learning that it did made perfect sense in my mind. I mean, those close combat weapons earned that R rating.

Now I think that the OFLC may do the same with God of War 3. Think about it. The game has technology that allows internal organs to move realstically after being torn out of a body. There's also been footage of Kratos pulling out eyes and ripping off heads. This is the sort of thing that might earn it an R rating and make Michael Atkinson rant about games training kids to be terrorists and serial killers. Also, blood can splatter on Kratos' skin, which I'd expect the OFLC to add in their report should they refuse the game's classification.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but we won't know till it is time for its classification.

What do you guys think?
I think that if GOW3 gets banned it will be another victory against the forces of crappy sequels. If you look at what games have been banned lately in Australia, or caused controversy, they all have one thing in common... they're all hastily rushed sequels that arguably should never have been released (or at least not so soon). Maybe the Australian government doesn't really care that much about violence, maybe they're just trying to protect us from bad gaming. Michael Atkinson is probably at a LAN right now.

And yes I'm Australian.

@Topic: It can possibly get banned, that's true, but on the other hand it's absolutely non-realistic, being set in a fantasy world that isn't even our time period.
Actually the problem with OFLC is the realistic depcition of violence, whereas zombies look human in both GOW (gears of war and god of war) the enemies clearly aren't anything resembling human. Which is probably what the colonists said when they tried to exterminate the indigenous folk...

Edit: Meant to add a "this is true" in the beginning

On a more serious note, If L4D2 got banned God of War 3 is well within the red zone.
Except its not something we can vote on. There is no public vote on who gets appointed South Australian Attorney-General.

I reckon if Prototype made it God of War 3 will make it.

On the upside, PS3 game = region free = imports. Technically they can confiscate it at customs if they find it, but they don't tend to search of games when they're busy looking for illegal flora/fauna/narcotics.

OK, everyone who is commenting about how Australia sucks, shut up. That's not what this is about.

Also, we have no say in who is picked to be Attorney General. Voting won't change that. If you don't know why we don't have an R18+ rating, do some research. In a vote to introduce an R18+ rating for games, all state's Attorney Generals were required to agree. South Australia's Michael Atkinson said no. The rest said yes.

Atkinson is misguided. His reasoning for saying no is that he "doesn't want kids to be able to get their hands on adult content" (or words to that effect). However, this has, in some cases, made it easier for kids to access 'adult' content. Take Borderlands for example. A fairly violent game that was rated 18+ in Europe, whereas in Australia it was rated MA15+ (The highest AU rating for video games).

In short, it's not our fault one person is a douche.

It will probably be banned, and a good thing too. It clearly teaches children to be ancient Grecian demigods and disembowel mythical creatures with oversized weapons and magic powers. You have no idea how many times I walk down the street and see children randomly and senselessly decapitating a Gorgon.

It was either Labour or the even more conservative Liberal party. Who have the same policy on video games.
Revolution? To legalize games?
I would.

I think it is stupid, unfair and just wrong to treat the entire nation like children by saying that if it is to violent for children then it is therefore too violent for Australia.

Also I agree, he is quite the douche. Someone needs to go Agent 47 on his ass. Fibrewire anyone?

OT: It has a snowball's chance in hell to pass OFLC. I haven't played any of the GoW games (I only own a PC) but I can relate (L4D 2).

I thought that the main reason that L4d2 was banned was because of the 'high impact violence' because it was all in first person. So I think that GOW will get through first shot but barely, being that it is in third person view.

Oh yeah... Never thought of this. Doesn't really bother me too much, as I don't have a PS3, but I feel sorry for all the Australian PS3 owners who are going to have to put up with an "edited" version of the game, probably with spurts of confetti instead of blood.

Bah, that's it. I'm creating a petition and taking down sonovabitch Micheal Atkinson, The guy is just destroying gamers in Australia.

Which is a load of bollocks; Kids at the age of 13-14 are off shooting/stabbing each other, watching porn and watching movies rated R +18 to begin with, so why the hell is it that we cant have games here for us Aussie who ARE over 18. I honestly don't know why Atkinson is even a Attorney General...

EDIT:Cant seem to go one day without a typo, making the sentence look weird.
