I'm inclined to agree with the OP. The incessant bitching and insulting within the gaming community is why we don't get respect.
Because the gaming fandom is still essentially a bunch of dick waving kids talking about why they're superior because of how much money they sink into their system or what system they have or, like the jagoff in the given example, how much time they sink into a particular game, people on the outside see the fandom as a whole as a bunch of, well a bunch of dick waving kids who... yaddah yaddah, you get the picture.
So yeah, I agree with the OP. If we're going to get respect from outside, we're gonna need to respect each other first. Basic human decency and all that, and not thinking that you're lord awesome and that you're better than anyone else just because your username happens to have a couple of stars next to it in a freaking match making lobby.
