In fairness, the guy just moved house... That's not exactly conducive to any great concentration.

Personally, I agree that of late the rapier wit has sort of been exchanged for a mace; effective, but nowhere near as cutting.

Every comedian and writer has off periods. Let's not forget, before he became ridiculously famous and involved in the Mana Bar, he had more time on his hands to really get his teeth into a game and his writing.

It'll pick up.

You could have just made this a comment in the latest ZP video instead of starting a new thread, given that it contains the America-bashing and dead baby jokes you seem so offended/bored by and therefore would have been very relevant.

Gotta keep in mind that Yahtzee is living in Australia. America-bashing and dead baby jokes might seem old hat and boring to you but they are pretty much 24-carat comedy gold in this country.

I'm somewhat conflicted on this issue. I still enjoy ZP, but I agree that it ahs become somewhat dry in the recent past. Yahtzee used to point out good and bad points about games (no matter how cynical he was about it, that's his thing afterall, and he does it admirably) but now it seems you have to read between the lines. For example if there's a review where he continually nags about the same thing all the way through, or if the things he points out as being rubbish are trivial or only bad in context, much of the time you can asume that the game is actually not that bad.

Perhapse Yahtzee feels that he has a reputation of disliking games that he wishes to uphold, and i suppose to the casual viewer he probably is just a sarcastic videogame snob with an English accent, but we who have watched the entire library of ZP know that he is capable of more.

Agree'd OP. I originally came to The Escapist because someone linked Yahtzee's review of RE5 to me. I remember watching it and crying I was laughing so hard. I then showed it to all my friends who I knew could appreciate it and they did as I had.

Now I cant think of a memorable quote, or review to come from Yahtzee from at least the past couple months.

For me, it isn't that he's doing anything different than he did before. I've watched all his early videos, and when I first came here, the first one I saw was the Dragon Age one, which I loved.

But it's more that he has a shtick, and I generally know what he's going to complain about with a game when I find out it's one I have played. The first one I saw, it was kind of shocking how he tore into a beloved title. But now the shock value is gone, so some of the funny went with it.

It's kind of like watching someone like, George Carlin. I loved him, but when he got to the late 90s and was still touring, he just wasn't as funny to me. He had his "angry guy who points out stupid stuff people do/say/write" shtick for a long time. Eventually it doesn't seem fresh anymore. He lasted longer than some comics that don't have as varied an act, but I still got tired of him.

My friend says the same thing about Robin Williams, who she used to love, but now thinks is stupid. But his jokes haven't really changed much. She just got tired of hearing the same kind of jokes delivered in the same style.

Oh, but i did make the comment. Do you think anybody read it? Right. I made this only because i thought i've found why exactly ZP started getting more and more negative reactions, including my own. I'm pretty sure i was at least partially right.

Gotta keep in mind that Yahtzee is living in Australia. America-bashing and dead baby jokes might seem old hat and boring to you but they are pretty much 24-carat comedy gold in this country.
If that is really the case, i should write down yet another reason not to emigrate in Australia.

I got tired of him because he never seems to change, after all this time and all the games he's reviewed he doesn't seem to have grown once as a gamer.

For instance since he's been reviewing I've come to appreciate a lot of games that I have played, and he still seems to have the same chip on his shoulder being discontent with most games as he always has.

But most unfortunately, he's become way too predictable, I don't even need to watch any of his videos because I already know exactly what he's going to say again and again.

He's a lot like how I feel about the overthinker (moviebob) now as well, eventually I just got tired of him too. In Moviebob's case I got tired of him bringing up Super Mario 3 a hundred times in every videos, I mean how much of a Nintendo fanboy can you get?
=/
Since when did he mention Super Mario 3?
I'm not talking about his movie reviews as Moviebob, I'm talking about his other segment where he's a game commentator on ScrewAttack and before that Youtube.

As much thought as he put's into those vids they're all simply made to praise Mario 3 till the end of time because he hasn't gotten over his nostalgia yet.
