To your Torontonians, I said "town" not "Fucking Toronto Canada's Shithole since Mayor Coke Man." I'm just peeved that they say with one hand "We want our children to grow up happily and healthily" and with the other "Oh we'll just shut down the only decent swimming location in the area during SUMMER." This town has a big drug trade problem, insane property taxes(I don't understand why the lots in this town are worth so damn much, they're mostly shit. If it weren't for my dad owning a few I'd be in a one room deal with paper thin walls and communal everything paying 500 bucks a month.) Like I said, I hate this shithole and I can't wait to leave.

Like I said, I just really needed to vent at how moronic this place can be at times. And I've lived in smaller towns with more to do, I miss Lancaster ;-;
Speaking as a Torontonian (that's a silly word), the Ford situation is embarassing, but not necessarily bad - the man's an idiot, but we noticed this fairly early and got the city council to put in resistance on his particularly stupid ideas, and at the moment he's been seriously de-powered. As far as I can tell, the city is as good as ever, whereas I really, really would not want to live in the town you're describing.

Now, if he gets re-elected come next fall, I will have to amend that statement. I mean, last time, we didn't know any of this shit, but if he gets re-elected (which is possible, however slightly), then it means the city's gone insane.

As much as that does seem like a bit of an odd decision, I think your town has a ways to go before earning the title you seek (not that I'm particularly familiar with many Canadian towns, but the other posters seem to have provided some nice examples).

On the subject of stupid, however, I know comparing an entire state to a town is cheating but... Hypothetically speaking, it'd be pretty stupid to blow $100 million on an investment in an industry that nobody involved in the investment process knew anything about, right? Especially if, for the purpose of our made-up example, anyone with any knowledge of the industry the state was investing in could have told them the deal was a terrible idea. It would also be mighty silly to then be surprised when the investment ended up as a total loss less than a year later. If such a thing ever did happen, which of course, it wouldn't, because that's ridiculous.

Shine on Rhode Island; you tiny, crazy state.

Yikes! That paper is both funny and extraordinarily depressing at the same time.
I could probably make a blog of all the hilarious headlines from here.
I really think you should. While just those two are tragic, they are incredibly funny gallows humor.

I also like to think that the person who won that sweepstakes was from Flint.

I haven't been there in a while but I hear its gotten worse. You know an English town is going downhill when it doesn't have a Woolworths.
Those still exist? I haven't seen one in my city for years. Actually, that explains a lot.

Oh, I remembered another one:

A local Town installed a hydro screw to create hydroelectric power for the local leisure centre, it was fraught with dodgy dealings (the screw was bought and sitting by the river before planning permission had passed) and cost a crap tonne of money. Then when they turned the screw on the water levels plunged by two feet to the riverbed as it dried up the river!

It was so bad all the salmon and trout were splashing in the shallow puddles, and then all the local cats, birds and other predators swarmed the river and had a field day picking them off.

For the reference the river should look something like this:

It could be worse, you could live in New Jersey. In fact you could live in the intersection between the Turnpike and The Parkway, the two largest highways in Jersey. We have one of the nation's largest oil refineries about 2 miles away. We have the state's largest power generation plants 5 miles away. And once a month, when the wind blows just right, you get the smell of burning rubber for about 6 hours. On the plus side, we don't have to go far to buy heroin or crack.
Hint: It's Woodbridge, NJ

I come from a little shithole called "Hawkesbury Ontario". Its current administration has, allegedly, mismanaged our budgetary funds for the next year and misplaced 1.3million dollars. Fair enough, shit happens. What is its initial idea for a cost saving measure? Oh, I don't know, let's just SHUT DOWN THE ONE PUBLIC POOL IN A 50KM RADIUS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, sounds grand. In fact, the idea is so great that the mayor is quoted as saying(Paraphrased because it's originaly in french.) "We hope that this measure will save us about 100,000$, it's a hard choice to make because health is so important to us."

As a bit of back story to explain why that is such a monumental piece of idiocy, I'll elaborate. The average income in this down is below 40k annually. The entertainment venues in this town are, (At least) 5 bars, 1 bowling alley(poorly managed and way out of the center of town) and a number of parks, with a few "wading pools" here and there. If you're thinking "Well that's what you get for living in a small town" according to Wiki, we're a population of (roughly) 10,400 people since 2011 census report. So not huge, but by no means warranting such a poor spread. Our downtown is downtrodden and looks like it jumped right out of the 60's, all of our stores are slowly migrating OUT of town, it's becoming a real cesspool. The chief import in this town is Weed, followed by child parents. And they decide "Oh let's kill the one place kids can go during summer vacation and let them do...stuff."

Source if anyone is interested(Or can read French)

You live in canada. That should have probably be your first indication that you live in a derp-tastic place. Between the almost fervish security at your airports, train stations, etc, your 'people' have a rather messed up government, a state-thingy that wants to secede from your country (quebec), and less than admirable health care (check ups free. Anything that requires even MINIMAL surgery? Your arm and leg, please) equals the country you call home.

Well, to be fair, if you're going to talk about Quebec...It's, well, it's fairly inbred some days. They've still got that fervent hate of anything "english" despite the wars ending a good hundred and some odd years ago. Guess they're still bitter.

As for the rest of it, I can't argue that the govt is pretty much made of stupid lately, can't say about the healthcare because I'm on disabilities so I'm basically covered for life. I never had much issue at the train stations and I've been to one of the ones in Ottawa without any issue.

If I had to gripe about the Government, it would have to be the horrible (continued)mistreatment of my ancestors and "people". Stupid Indian Act.

Knowing how poltics work(Look at the Xbone) it's entirely possible he gets re-elected because people simply "forget" or he looks better than the other guy, whomever that is. Would you prefer Torontonite? Toronto-ist? Torontoniasmist? Man that last one would be a weird one to throw around.
