Tactics, respective army compositions and quality.Silentpony said:Deep resigned sigh
I'm not convinced.
I enjoyed it last night, but its insanely...dull and uninvolved beyond "Go!" and "Attack" and the occasional "Cast!" Also in keeping with my just starting, victory vs. defeat seems entirely arbitrary.
I played 3 custom missions last night, each the exact same. I was Orks vs. Empire, with medium sized armies on a big open field, with the exact same armies and the exact same tactics.
1st mission was a pyrrhic victory. 2nd was a decisive defeat. 3rd was decisive victory. And for the life of me I couldn't tell you why either went which way. Nothing changed, and I made sure of that.
It just seems...random.

Feels a little bare-bones to me the more I play it. I'm usually quite bored of my campaign like fifty turns in. Magic is pretty much useless offensively, it's sole purpose is pretty much buffs and debuffs. It just feels like a lot is missing from it.
OT: I do think it's a pretty average game. There's a visceral thrill of playing these characters in a video game where I don't have to buy a sea of models to represent the army. But the tactics could use a lot of work. I'm probably going to wait for a mod to make it more tactical like the old Darth mods but I am happy that we had a vanilla that wasn't broken straight out of the gate (yes, I know Attila happened. Still doesn't excuse Rome II)
I really want to play the High Elves because they have Dragons
And I wanna play Daemons of Chaos because they have Khorne Daemons like Bloodletters and Bloodthirsters.
A big thing about the Warhammer World is that there are two Chaos Portals on the North and South Poles of the World. So summoning Greater Daemons are easier in this world. This is balanced by the fact the Old Ones planned this and weakened the portals so it is easier to kill Greater Daemons in this world than it is in 40k (In 40k one greater daemon/daemon prince is enough to destroy a whole world). The Daemon Princes in Warhammer Fantasy comes in two flavors. The type that has to be summoned by great sacrifice and the type that is created by a roving band of Chaos Warriors. Due to the feverish belief the Daemon Prince's subjects have, he can stay on the material realm without having to force himself into the warp as belief keeps in grounded in reality.Samtemdo8 said:And like 40k (or Dawn of War) they have to summoned by Sacrificing a Chaos Lord?
Well have fun waiting four more years at a minimum for the other games games to come out.dohnut king said:I'm getting it, but I'll wait for a complete edition with all (or most of the) factions rather than paying for them as DLC. Until then, I have Stellaris right now and Civ. VI in the fall.
I had nothing to fear.Samtemdo8 said:You have every right to fear the Dwarves of Warhammer:Bernzz said:I'm enjoying my Greenskins campaign, slowly crushing the orc tribes in the south, but I'm wondering how the hell I am going to take Karaz-a-Karak when the time comes. Dwarfs are terrifying and orcs break quickly.
Bretonnia is playable in the game, just in the multiplayer.....And they are weak ass fuck.Megalodon said:There's been a mixed reaction to this one?
Granted, I've been a bit busy playing it to check, but all my RL mates are loving it. Is it absolutely perfect? No, the economy could do with a bit of a tweak, the army limit was BS in Rome II and it's still BS here, and it can be stupidly hard to pin down Chaos raiding armies in your territory (while they burn it down, making the economy even more broken). That said some of these have long been a problem with the series.
I haven't found the battles any worse than any other total war game. There's a degree of faction variation never before seen in the series. The 5 playable factions offer so much more gameplay variation than, say, Shogun 2, where the dozen plus clans were functionally identical.
Really, it's easily the best Total War since Napoleon, and if I wasn't so enamoured with that time period it'd be the best since Medieval II. It's great. CA really delivered. And it should get even better when they add in more Legendary Heroes and Races (bring on the Brets!).
