Have you ever been followed around a shop my security because of your looks.

I once did in a local TESCO's obviously me with long hair, leather jacket, and a lot of black and my girl friend with a long trench coat short purple hair and a large number of facial piercings to help us stand out we were obviously up to no good. We were followed so closely by this security guard that we accidentally hit him with are shopping basket when we turned around. I also noticed some smart looking man in a shirt simply walk out the shop with his stuff without paying...
I did not think much of it.

But ye...anyone else had similar experiences? What do you think about this?

Never really happened to me.

There were some times were it looked like I was being followed, but that was because we were going to the same destination.

I'm pretty calm in events like that.

I was many a time followed around the local mall because I was wearing a black t-shirt, eyeliner, boots that go up to my knees, finger-less gloves and also the amount of teen angst in my pockets made it look like I was stealing watermelons. I'm so misunderstood.

Never happened to me. Have you considered that it might have been because of the trench-coat? I've worked in stores where management explicitly instructed everyone to keep a close eye on anyone wearing a trench-coat or something similar. In all fairness, it's really really easy to hide a lot of stuff under one, especially if it's over sized.

Well long hair and a beard. Now that's not very suspicious but when you factor in my liking for wearing a large dark green jacket it is understandable.
The only time this happened that I noticed was in Aldi. I suppose the fact that it was sunny and warm yet I still wore the aforementioned jacket may have piqued the security guard's suspicion. I found it quite funny.

Followed? Not that I remember...

But everytime I carry my rucksack with me I get asked to "please open it for a second". It's annoying and they actually aren't even allowed to do that (or better said I'd be able to refuse and walk away) but meh, if they like seeing which books I carry around with me let them.

When I did work experience at the local kwik-save many years ago, they didn't have cameras.. so when the staff had a meeting I had to pretend I was doing stuff near the front isle and to stalk people.

Mm. I just kept the fingers and threw away the glove parts. Life's pretty rough right now..

OT: Not in a shop. Did have some bald apoplectic-looking chap shout at me for 'loitering' outside the entrance to Tesco, however. You know, waiting for my friend's mother to finish buying something.

Just a stupid old guy, I guess. That, and my town is full of kleptomaniacs.

I've been followed briefly by little skanger kids. Preteen mafioso.

This is what first came to mind for me. If I saw a person with a trench-coat in a store i'd be suspicious of them too.

Yeah! And they wouldn't stop shouting "Get back here! I saw you steal that!" either! So unfair...

But seriously; no. I don't really look like the kind of person to cause trouble, nor do I.

How tempted have you been to put crazy stuff in there? Like Halloween props!!! Just think about it, they open the bag and there's a fake arm or head just sitting there. The more realistic, the better. That'd be funny...though you might get sued...

I don't recall any store stories but here's a church one. My wife, her friend, and I all got invited to go to a conservative church...no problem, except that, at the time, I had a black mohawk and a tongue ring, she had black hair with a "pink" (I still argue that they looked red against the black) highlights and a piercing through the side of her nose, and her friend had a septum (middle part of her nose) piercing, a lip ring, and (yep, you guessed it) black hair. Half the congregation spent the service just glancing at us every 5 seconds and whispering...kinda annoying, especially when I was being so respectful and listening to the sermon politely. Though I am kinda surprised that my skin didn't burn inside the church...hmm...

I'm the second guy in the story. I grabbed a cd case at a walmart a couple of weeks ago, i was half-way to my car when i realized I had never payed for it. I went back in and bought it though, It was only 5 dollars.

I was 12 and I was inside one of those 99 cents stores, it was just after school let out so I had my backpack. But because I had a backpack, they apparently felt the need to keep an eye on me. -_-

Well, on my last day in Paris, my friends and I decided to go to a restaurant called "Flunch." The manager went on about how "you Americans always try to scam the nice people of France out of everything we've got." He followed us while we got out food and kept an eye on us while we ate. He even made sure we were out of the place before he went back to his duties.

Yeah, but then I got stuck on a rock and he came up to me and said, "Stop right there, Criminal Scum!", and I had to pay the fine.

When I was in Washington D.C., I got profiled all the time. I'm basically a metal kid (random band shirt, and jeans), so they kept pulling me and my best friend out of all these lines all the time when we were in some of the historical or government places. lol. That's pretty much the only time I can think of it happening just form how I look though.
