I want to take sniper training (and no I'm not a 12 year old CoD player, I was into snipers since I was 5) just in case my country needs me and I'm the only one qualified for the job or something. You should too, its ideal, no interaction with people, just you the scope and the gun.

Its a lot harder than that but still its better than being the minuteman.
Don't Snipers usually have a sniper and a spotter?
Yeah but what I meant by that was when it gets right down to it, its those 3 things, learn to love them.

I was thinking of enlisting into the Canadian Armed Forces when I'm done with high school. Think it's a good idea? What do you guys know about the military? Any of you in it? I'm not sure which branch I want to join, but I want to be in the reserves.
Alright, I'm in a reserve unit. I joined up in grade 12 and graduated QL2 at the same time as my High school graduation. I've been in for about 8 years. I'm also a cpl and in the infantry.
Do you want to know what I think?

I think joining the Canadian armed forces is one of the greatest experiances of my life. My first 4 years saw me a tour of duty to Bosnia peacekeeping, guarding the G8 and many excersises that are forever memories. I have yet to feel as useful to the world, and more confident in myself than when I was training to go to Bosnia.

That being said, there are draw backs to it. If you let it, you can get frustrated at how things are, how civilian life can be, and the politics of things. The world becomes real after you have seen the world and are confronted with reality. You can take that many ways. It's life, but its a quick growth aswell. Not going to lie, the world and humanity can leave a bitter taste in your mouth, it did for me.

I think it would be a good idea to join up. Do basic and your soldier qualifications (infantry, engineer, medic...whatever you choose). Do a tour. And after, really analyse what you want in life from that point on. Don't sit on your ass...do it. That should take you to about 3 years and if you save up you can buy a house, go to school, or strike out and see if you can make it in the placement of your choosing.

After your tour, it's like a relationship. At first you have a love for what you do blindly...sorta like infatuation. After your tour, you hit your 8th month in a relationship. The infatuation stops and you are left with what the relationship is. There are a lot of divorces in the military (both way's to take that are true btw).

And well, thats my two cent's. Hope that helped. Send me a message if you wish to learn more...if not, good luck.

I too plan to enlist, in the America's Military (Navy Branch, to pay for college). I don't want a shit-ton of loans when i get outta college, and my family has a history of Naval Service. Canada doesn't do any direct war-fighting, but they send troops to U.N. Sanctioned fighting (Or whatever the term is.)

Personally i think serving your country is a fine thing to do. I'm no "America FUCK YEAH!" crazy nationalist. But i think to be willing to potentially die in service of your country, fighting for it and all it's people is an honorable task. Still, I'm not ballsy (or stupid enough) to go into the Marines or Army. The Air force is pretty rad, but i could never be a part of it.(Eyesight is GOD awful.)

Plus, if you go career, you will make some serious bank during it, and a nice pension plan.

Really the only negative is the potential loss of life, and any personal psychological issues with the call of duty. I.E Killing a man.

I would never want to kill a person, I respect human life. I think no one person is any better or more valuable than another, but if a guy is shooting at me, with the intent to kill, you better believe i'mma be firin' back twice as hard.

But yes, to answer your statement, I am indeed severely damaged in the psychological area.
And I love it.
Well, I'm sorry hear that.
MaxTheReaper said:
Okay, well I disagree, because personal experience has taught me the EXACT OPPOSITE: The suffering of others is like a fine wine.
Is it? Care to elaborate?

I am not being silly when I say that this kind of thing annoys me more than the illegality of being able to murder whores: Your OPINION is not the only one that exists.
Furthermore, you are incapable of objectively measuring the merits of our respective worldviews due to your obvious lack of lack of emotions (there was no typo.)

You do not get to decide what's right for everyone anymore than I do.
After all, what gives you the right?
Who died and made you Cthulhu?
Nobody.
Nobody died and made you Cthulhu.

You do not get to proclaim what is OBJECTIVELY RIGHT and WRONG just because you crown yourself KING OF MORALITY.
I didn't decide it was wrong; God did.

Now... I don't want to initiate a religious debate. If you don't believe in God, so be it. But, do understand why I think what I think.

I'm still having great issues trying to understanding why you believe what you do. Do you just like to be annoying? Do you enjoy attention? Or, do you honestly believe the claims that you have presented to be true?

Canada doesn't fight in any wars, so I guess you don't have to worry about that :p...

If they help pay for college like ( i think) the American military does than it may be a good way to get a good, free college education so you can be a winner in life!
If it weren't for the Canadians in Operation:Overlord, the Allies would never have taken Normandy.
I refer you to fluffybacon's later post.

Though I too am guilty of taking what he said too seriously. I still blame my ADD.

i also thought about when i join the FBI (hopefully) signing up to be a sharpshooter on the assult teams i never really thought about it until my friend who is a former marine sniper took me to the range and said that im pretty good for never having any training

and if that fails i can always settle for being a cop

I AM THE BEST SPINNER IN THE WORLD AND NOBODY CAN TELL ME OTHER WISE. I PRACTICE SPINNING AROUND ALL DAY LONG, BECAUSE IT IS IN FUN, AND IN THE END, THAT'S ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS. IF YOU DO NOT ENJOY LIFE AS I DO ENJOY SPINNING AROUND IN CIRCLES THAT YOU HAVE NO REASON TO LIVE LIFE, THIS IS TRUE. I LIKE TO SPIN AROUND IN MY ROOM, AND I LIKE TO SPIN AROUND OUTSIDE IN A FIELD. SOMETIMES I FIND FRIENDS AND WE SPIN AROUND TOGETHER AND WE TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT DON'T REALLY MATTER BUT THAT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT BECAUSE THINGS THAT DON'T MATTER MATTER EVEN MORE THAN THINGS THAT DO.
Whoa! You're the best spinner? In the world?

What about all of the other spinners? How were you able to compare them to yourself?

I'm intrigued... you should show us all your crazy spinning abilities via a YouTube upload.

Do it... now! I demand it. ;)

Isn't Canada a capitalist nation? I know its more left than America, but so is just about everyone these days.

If its a socialist nation and I'm just ignorant about it, then go ahead and join.

If its a capitalist nation, I don't see why a good commie like yourself would join.
Canada is capitalist, but in the event of invasion I want to protect the people I care about.
Actually its a mixed economy.

Seriously?
I'm not.
As a matter of fact, taking into consideration the rest of your post (I recognize you now, incidentally! Hello! Hiii! :D) I'm confused as to why you would.
You must believe your God either
A:) Made me this way

OR

B:) Created circumstances that would result in me being this way.
So either way, you should believe it was your God's plan.
(No I am not even making fun of you. But it just makes sense from a religious standpoint.)

I enjoy when other people suffer at my hand?
I honestly cannot get much more elaborate than that.
Everyone has things that amuse them.

Some people like to draw.
I personally enjoy writing and causing other people to suffer.
Mad World said:

That's a little more difficult to argue against since God never seems to want to engage in conversation with me.

I guess I can understand your reasoning behind agreeing with a being that you believe to be omnipotent and omniscient.
I suspect that the margin of error should be rather low.

I could apply the same to you or millions (billions, actually) of other people.

Yes, yes, and it depends on the specifics, but possibly yes, maybe no.

Some of it, certainly.
Some of it I probably just think is amusing.

You're right, can't deny that. Still, in my opinion any amount of capitalism is bad.

But that's not going to stop me from protecting the people I care about.

I'd just like to mention that the bickering here is hilarious and is one of the reasons why I love The Escapist so damn much.

I'm in the Canadian Forces, best job in the world, join the reserves first to see if you like it. It's a hard job and there's alot of cock( fucking with you for fun) but my best memories are from the military. After lugging around 200 pounds in the middle of the night then resting to look up at the stars, amazing. Good pay to, not for everyone.
