Because its not Elder Scrolls. You can't all be "chosen ones" and all be in the center of some massive event... The idea of an MMO dilutes the experience of an Elder Scroll.

That, and the story repeating itself that a big company with a known developer has a massively popular franchise and tries to jump into the MMO ring to out-blizzard Blizzard; and when it fails, it lost so much money and resources the IP lost appeal, the developer lost credibility and the company lost solvency.
Technically, you weren't the Chosen One in Oblivion, Martin Septim was. You were just the Chosen One's gopher. I mean, you literally spend the entire main story line running errands for people. Go close some Oblivion gates, fetch me a Daedric artifact, go close even more Oblivion gates. Then Martin goes and fuses with Akatosh and owns Mehrunes Dagon. Pretty standard stuff for an MMO. And most of what you do in an Elder Scrolls game is dicking about anyways, not much different to an MMO.

Slightly offtopic: In Skyrim you're the Dragonborn, in Morrowind you're The Nerevarine, what are you in Daggerfall and Arena? Based on what I've read, you were just some dude imprisoned in the dungeons at the beginning of Arena, and were an envoy of the Emperor in Daggerfall. So, if I've got my facts straight(which seems to be a rare occurence...), of the five main TES games, only 2 have you as The Chosen One, plus you becoming a Daedric Prince at the end of Shivering Isles when you become Sheogorath.

Well, the thing is, every PC in the series knows CHIM, which makes them five of the seven most powerful beings in the setting.

I think cautiously optimistic is what I'm feeling.

If they deliver all that they promise? It will be genre defining.

If it falls flat TES franchise will be damaged beyond just the MMO.

In arena you're the captain of the Imperial Guard. In Daggerfall you're just some schmuck who somehow made friends with the emperor.

If it's subscription based (and from the rumors I hear that's what it's going to be) I will not get it. However, if it's a one time purchase, I will probably get it.

Still excited for, no matter what they tell you, a WoW or GW2 clone? Eh, it's you're money. Just don't be upset when you have buyer's remorse in the first 30 hours and you're missing your money.

In the game's favor, I've like almost everything I've heard about it so far, but I'll say what I said after playing Star Wars: The Old Republic: This is a great RPG, I just wish it didn't have this clunky MMO and all these annoying players nailed to it. Seriously, maybe it's just that I have no friends, but I've yet to see how the presence of other human beings, the vast majority of which annoy me, and the machinations necessary to accommodated a world populated by many human beings simultaneously greatly improve any experience. Basically, I hate multiplayer games (ok, almost all multiplayer games) and MMOs almost always feel like single player games with more people and garbage stapled to them.

I'll still buy it, because I'm always happy to be proved wrong, and I will still enjoy the hype, because there's no reason not to, but I don't know if it will end up being good.

I wasn't massively convinced by it at first but with the few videos I've seen of people praising the game my interest has been piqued.

Mind you, I'm still not sold on it but I am interested and will keep my eye on it.

What are the chances of getting selected for the beta???
Depends on how you answered the questionnaire, I managed to get my bar full somehow (something I have been unable to replicate) so I have the highest chances but most people will be 'above average'.

TOR was pretty much kotor 3, the storyline was really good except for the repetetive side-quests that you absolutely needed to do on every planet or you wouldn't have level to continue along the story(both character's and general campaign which were separated.) the pvp was fun for a while but they kinda wrecked it and the engine was too weak to support more than 10 or 20 players at the same place with no lag whatsoever which sucked badly.

I have some hope for TESO I hoped it would be first person when I first heard of it though.

I had a full bar too, though I ended up doubling and tripling up on the "previous MMOs" fields, because they wouldn't give me any more spots to type them in. I didn't even get them all in then, I left Neocron, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine, Asheron's Call 2 and Anarchy Online off the list.

It would have been simpler to just say "all released in Enlgish language, since UO, barring a few Korean F2Ps, plus a few MUDs" but that's not as impressive as a giant list. =)

I fail to understand why anyone would ever be upset about a game or movie being made, why they hear about it and instantly start crying about how bad an idea it is or how much it's going to suck.

People complain about this being made, people complain about the new Star Wars movies. Etc etc.

Why would you want to hate something? What? They're making a multiplayer version of a single game you love? I fail to see why that's bad. If it's good, you can play it and have fun. If it sucks, you don't have to play it. I really don't see the problem.

If it's good, YAY, if it's Bad, who cares stay away from it. Where is the problem?

Any idea of what it said the chance was with a full bar?

I didn't think much of it until all of my friends complained that they couldn't get their bar to full.

I personally think for me it was my rather extensive number Beta & Alpha tests I've been involved in on top of the large number of previous MMO's I have played; I also wrote a good amount in the space provided at the end of the questionnaire which I think may have helped get it there.

"Excellent" with a full bar.

I am easily the biggest Elder Scrolls fanboy on this forum.... and even I still think it is going to suck.
I would think that the bigger the fan of the Elder Scrolls series the more likely they are to dislike the idea of a MMO Elder Scrolls.

Elder Scrolls to its fans is a great single-player rpg experience with a wide open world. To change up that formula into a MMO, which a lot of Elder Scrolls fans dislike seems like a bad idea.
I count my self as a hardcore fan. I felt The consoles killed the elder scrolls. Oblivion was console trash. Morrowind was good. Skyrim was decent if not a little boring. Daggerfall is still my favorite Elder Scroll game. So the mmo make me think. Garbage made for the causal console players. Nothing for us hardcore fans.

I'm skeptical, but if this MMO can pull off being a great online multiplayer game while keeping the traditions the Elder Scrolls series, it'll do a lot of good for the industry. It won't be special, but it'll show on how two genres can mix into something fun.
