I know that individually they don't have much Chronology but where should I jump in? lik for example Iron man 3 takes place after the avengers right? I've seen Ironman 1 and 2 although 2 I found lacklustre at the time

Christ how many are there anyway?

You can jump into any of them, the way they are made you don't need to see any of the others to understand what is going on. Iron Man 3 doesn't require The Avengers being seen to understand, but it does provide a bit of context for what Tony is going through.

Also don't expect them to be that good. Captain America 2 and Guardians are great movies, but the rest stay around the "average" mark pretty heavily. They range from "slightly above average" to "slightly below average".
...in your entirely subjective opinion, of course.

I'd say don't expect anything, Vault - just whack 'em on, and see if you enjoy any of them.

But yeah, starting at the, er, start is probably a good bet... ;-) I'm tempted to subjectively say skip The Incredible Hulk (just watch the Nick Fury clips on YT or something), and don't bother with Iron Man 2 ever again, but if you don't mind killing a couple of hours on the Marvel Cinematic Universe sputtering for a bit (for me that'd be IM2, Hulk, Thor 2, and maybe even the first Thor), then it's still best to go through the whole lot from beginning to end. It's not essential, but you'll get the most out of 'em that way.

Oh, actually, do expect something: formulaic plots and structures. If you're even a tiny bit of a comics nerd and you Marvel wiki a few things, the relevance of the major MacGuffins will be-- well, relevant and major because of where it's all headed. If not, they'll just be tedious Objects Of Power.

(and yeah, Bitter Hobbit's order is obviously what I'd recommend)

Hulk was the one I was definitely going to skip...concept doesn't interest me at all

I'm not expecting much I just want to see what all the fuss is about for better or worse...I wanna jump on the bandwagon!

of coarse I might end up all bitter and hateful like I did with Skyrim

The Phase 1 movies really aren't that good (meaning all the movies leading up to The Avengers), except maybe for Iron Man. The only likely reason they're remembered foundly at all is because The Avengers turned out to be a pretty fun movie. Phase 2 is a lot better though with Captain America: Winter Soldier being stellar all around.

I'd say, skip most of Phase 1 - maybe check out Thor just to familiarize yourself a bit with space-Marvel and Loki - and just jump in with The Avengers. And then ofcourse watch Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America 2, cuz they're great.

You can watch pretty much any of them and have a grasp at what's going on without needing to watch the other films (even Thor: The Dark World). Given that you've watched the first two Iron Man films I'd start on the first Thor or the first Captain America. The former is silly and charming, the latter is old fashioned and charming (which may be the same thing), but they both kick arse.

Skip The Hulk.

I'd say:

Iron Man
Thor
Iron Man 2
Captain America
The Avengers
Thor 2
Iron Man 3
Captain America 2
Guardians Of The Galaxy

In that order.

The Marvel movies are great, and I'd recommend watching them all just for the character investment. The best order is to watch them chronologically:

Captain America
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Captain America 2
Guardians of the Galaxy

Iron Man 1 was the official start of the MCU, so it has to be there- then you watch Captain America and Thor before Avengers, and Captain America 2, Thor 2. Iron Man 2 and 3 are kinda weird, because I don't think they have a lot to do with much? You can happily watch Iron Man 1, 2 and 3 before anything else, and you won't really lose anything for it.

Start with Iron Man, and immediately end with Guardians of the Galaxy. Delving into any of the films that fall in between will only bring you depression and contempt (especially the Thor movies, and of course Iron Man 2).

What is with the negativity of most of the Marvel movies? I remember a time when this:
where all a comic book fan could hope for a Hollywood adaptation. Not to say they are perfect, but compared to them, any of the Marvel movies is pretty watchable.

To answer the question, the best way to see them is in release order:
Iron Man
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America
Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Captain America 2
Guardians of the Galaxy

And so on...

If you want to skip a few, I would advice you to skip Thor 2 and Iron Man 2. They are not bad, but they are definitely the weakest of them...

I do not recommend skipping ANYTHING, since everything is important to something else.
It's all connected together.

Anyone saying you can watch them out of order, or that certain movies don't have much to do with anything, clearly haven't been paying attention or don't have the foresight to know what they're talking about.
Iron Man 2 and 3, for example, are VERY connected to what follows them.

But if you WERE to skip something, I'd say it should be The Incredible Hulk(the movie LEAST connected to anything else ATM), the Marvel One-Shots (except 'All Hail The King'), and episodes 2-10 of Agents Of SHIELD.

I find that mileage seems to vary on which ones people enjoy to which degree. Personally, I love Iron Man, Avengers, Winter Soldier, and Guardians, and I still really enjoy Captain America and both Iron Man sequels.
