What about XIIVVIXIXI?
Should be out Q2 2009. ;)

Anyway. While FF VI (that's FF3 to my fellow Americans who might not have followed the whole series) is and will always be my favorite, expecting everyone else to agree with you is like expecting to go to the polls on election night and see all but one switch covered in dust. People like what they like, y'know?

I'm sure there are many threads already dedicated to this subject, I don't think that there's ever going to be a solid answer one way or another. In all honesty, I never finished 6. It wasn't bad, but I came into the series at 7 and couldn't go back. The controls were too clunky for me. I find whatever # I come into any series with is the furthest back in the series I can go. I don't like Burnout 2, the original Tekken or Twisted Metal, Soul Calibur, or Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.

Back to FF. Here's my list of the one's I've played in ascending order. Feel free to tell me how much I'm wrong.

8 (that game was terrible, unbalanced, and mind-numbing)
10 (just couldn't get into it)
5 (clever, but old)
6 (same excuse as 5)
12 (a lot of fun, made me forget about WoW for a month)
9 (wonderful story, graphics and score)
7 (the epitome of RPG's to date.

I always found FFVII to be massively overrated. Not really into the whole JRPG thing so maybe its just me, but I kind found it repetetive and borring. But I played it years after it came out and it hadnt aged well.

I'm a "to-the-point" kind of guy.

The title said my purpose to acknowledge the greatest FF. And my post showed what it was.

What the hell more do you want? A review? A rating out of 10? Stars? An explanation of my reasoning? A well explained rant about how FFVII is overrated and is average? Pick one.

Never played VI. VII was my favorite since "The Secret of Mana" on the Gameboy. And since VII I have never really enjoyed any other JRPGS. I did play the newest release (as well as X), but really disliked the skill up systems so much I had to put them down prematurely. I may pick up VII again to relive some of my PSone glory days.

You should back up your opinion with some fact, anecdotal evidence, or even hyperbole. Otherwise you are just seem like a troll looking to start a flame war. If you don't know much about making a comparative argument then you should try reading this.

I'm replaying FFVII right now (for about the 4th time) because I found a store here that managed to import brand new copies of it, after last playing it approximately 2 years ago, and it's still the best of the Final Fantasy franchise.
The story is compelling, the characters lovable and the combat is simplistic and yet still lots of fun. The Materia is easy to use and you never really run out of magic unless you have no Ethers/Elixers/etc. (unlike FFVIII where you have to 'steal' the spells out of people with the Draw system.)
I played FFVIII up until the start of the last disc and just got fucked off with the game and never finished. Same for FFV, but I was playing it as a SNES ROM at the time so maybe sitting in front of the computer was the reason (although I never had any problems playing and finishing Chrono Trigger... 3 times.)

Well the combat is exactly the same as previous Final Fantasies. The plot is a "Copy-Paste" of Final Fantasy VI, except with different names and the fact that Sephiroth is a horrible ripoff of Kefka.

And I rather despise the rag tag cast of FFVII.

Although I loved FF7 (to the maximum extent one can love an FF game), theres something about FFI that makes it so much better.
