I always sort of new I was a nerdy kind of kid growing up. Played super Nintendo instead of riding bikes when i was 7-9. Not paying attention to my guests at my birthday when i got my N-64. Playing D&D 3.5 with buddies and having a good old time with WOW (pre wrath).

I'm all over the place with gaming and its subcultures. But I've grown up, got a job and moved on.

But today I ran into an old gamer acquaintance who saw me with my new dressed up look, car, and psp ect, and he told me I looked like "one of those stupid trendy gamers".

Has any one else been called that?

Or do you think its true that if you leave the basement that your no longer a "gamer"?

Shrug it off because that old friend obviously has HUA syndrome. Head Up Ass. In fact, his head's so far up there he can use his esophagus as a periscope.

Some gamers are fanatically strict on what they constitute what makes a gamer. Those ones aren't worth your or really anybody elses' time. They make the lot of us look bad.

He was obviously coming on to you.

That was kinda messed up though.

I would say being a "trendy" gamer only applies to those who play the blockbuster hits and shun everything independent. But that would mean you're still a gamer, wouldn't it?

I dunno, that's a stupid elitist term, if it wasn't in jest. I could care less what other people play, as long as they're not giving their money to the wrong developers/publishers. This can be tricky though, as there are a lot of good developers under bad publishers. EA obviously comes to mind.

I think this is a better question for the fems.

Wait, you play games, you used to play games a lot and someone calls you a trendy gamer and that's... a lie?

You are the definition of trendy gamer based on what you've told us.

Dunno where that came from, I'm definately not a slut...
I'm not quite sure how those two words relate to each other.

To the OP: I haven't been called that, but just ignore the guy.

I think a lot of people have this idea that you can only call yourself a gamer if your very existence revolves around playing games and if you step out of your mom's basement due to vitamin D deprivation then you're a not a TRUE GAMER. IN CAPS.

Or something. Gaming elitists are annoying, don't let it bother you.

Nope but I do my best to not follow any trends anyway.

If you take an interest in games and enjoy them avidly I classify you as a gamer. It's a shame when people use it snobbishly as a negative term.

Right. Real talk now.

Anyone who has had games make an impact on their life is a gamer. Every person whose face lights up at the sound of Mario theme music, or anyone who has ever felt the compulsion to hold their Christmas presents up and sing "dun da da da daaaaaa" is a gamer. And you are no exception to that rule. (I think)

No offense, but your friend was being a twat.
