One of my friends brought in an actual WW2 rifle for a drama project once. He hid it in a guitar bag, but the end of the barrel stuck out, so he hid it with a glove. It looked like there was an arm in there, and he got a few funny looks.

So, as that title was probably quite confusing, I'm going to give a little bit of background, so that this makes sense. Every year at my school, Year 11 celebrates the fact that we break up for study leave, by dressing up in a wide variety of fancy dress costumes and cosplay. Now, a friend of mine was panicking about her costume, as it wasnt quite complete yet. She wanted to go as a pirate - but was missing, amongst other things, a piratey - style sword. So, I offered to lend her my pirate sword, acquired from a previous fancy dress. I decided to bring it too her the next day, via the school bus, as per normal.

However, it almost didn't go to plan.

As I was getting off the bus, the bus driver got out, and said, "Yeah, that's him there. Stop him!". I was then told the wait, in full view of the other buses, and my bus's students, whilst he unloaded everyone. Then he turned to me and asked what it was sticking out of my bag. I answered, "A pirate sword, for a friend - its for fancy dress." He then demanded to see it, and after identifying it was indeed plastic, and not the instrument of death he thought I was wielding, I was sent on my way with a growled warning about how the "police could arrest you for that, it's an offensive weapon."

What does The Escapist think? Was he right to stop me over a plastic sword? Was it ridiculous of him to even care?

I personally think he's mad, but oh well.

TL;DR - I was stopped becuase of a plastic sword, sticking out of my schoolbag.

My friend got done for exactly the same thing for our sixth form year 12 fancy dress. We went to get some lunch in town and he was dressed up as Blade (which is a bit ironic since he's white. Consequently he had a plastic samurai sword with him. we walked along 2 high streets ok until we got to the forum shopping centre where we were surrounded by 3 plains clothes officers and a female one complete with stab proof vest. the asked me and my other friend to step away from by Blade dressed friend and for him to put the sword on the floor while he tried to frantically explain that it was for fancy dress and therefore a fake.

When they did realize the police laughed it off, except my friend was terrified over what had happened. Apparently the police had been watching us on CCTV since we entered the outskirts of town and watched us for 20 minutes as we made our way to the shopping center.

They said the didn't realize we were doing a fancy dress, despite the fact that i was completely blue, dressed as a character from AVATAR and my other friend was a Jedi (it was Sci Fy themed)

Not only did they terrify us but all the other shoppers who thought we were home grown terrorists. To be told we had been watched on CCTV for 20 minutes then ambushed by the police was horrible and my friend thought he was going to be arrested.

I think that guy has a few problems. Seriously, a plastic sword? Aren't those things made for kids? Pretty sure they can't do any damage whatsoever. Oh well, the world's full of people like that so just gotta avoid them when you can.

Well you never can be sure on first glance

THats a real one.

It wouldnt be impossible to make a real sharp weapon to look fake. And since the country is paranoid already i am not surprised.

Good god, people are idiots. Even since 9-11, the security and uptightness of people has reached overzealous levels. Seriously, IT'S A FUCKING PIECE OF PLASTIC!!!
