I wish Anonymous would find the people attacking PSN.

You are wrong. They specifically denied bringing down PSN in a co-ordinated attack.

It's possibly rogue elements of Anonymous were members of the PSN hacker group, but Anonymous as a whole did not bring down PSN.

OT: That'd be lovely in a way, but terrifying in another. Who appointed Anonymous as the great internet vigilantes?
Ahem... Anonymous as a "whole"? I'm not sure they are cohesive enough to be referred to as a "whole".

OT: not going to happen, no blackhat is going to expose another blackhat, and no blackhat is going to risk compromising their anonymity by working with any government agency under any conditions.

I'll admit, it would be interesting to see PSN saved by Anon. Will it happen? It has about as much chance of happening as a snowball does of surviving in hell. Possible, just REALLY improbable. It would still be cool to see it happen.
So you're saying that a snowball could survive in hell.
In theory, sure. Only the chances of that happening at like... a billion to one or something.
Or if you believe Dante's Inferno, I believe one of the inner circles was completely frozen over with people trapped in the ice? Even if its all heat and lava, technically there is a minute possibility of it surviving... But really not gonna happen ;) Just like Anonymous working to catch the hackers....

Surely I'm not the only one? This would be a tale people might want the movie rights to. An organization (Anon) that had at one time attacked our precious, but possibly malevolent, PSN is now being charged with the virtual equivalent of murder. The only way to clear their name? Find the real perpetrators and expose them.

C'mon, I know you'd watch that movie. Y'all's thoughts?
Dont be too sad, xbox is next.
I have every console and a some PCs I built myself. As long as they don't shut off the internet or come into my house and physically assault my precious Dreamcast, I won't mind.

Well, the funny thing is that doing so is the ONLY WAY they could prove their innocence, in a Batman sort of way.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. Who better to find a bunch of hackers than a bunch of hackers. They could even work with the FBI, with Anon's hacking abilities and the FBI's resources they could definetly find them and shove the rage of Sony's fanbase straight up their asses.
Implying anon's hacking abilities are worth a crap and that they would willingly work with the exact same opposite thing they would like to work with.

If they shut off the internet that would screw themselves over and i dont think they will come after you.:) I find it interesting to watch so i found the hackers who did it and their irc chat. Now i have a front row seat. Fun funi definitly need a break from online gaming anyway:)

You want the FBI to work WITH the people they're also chasing on grounds of trafficking child porn and breaking countless cyber laws?

Anon aren't great hackers, they're mediocre at best. Majority of them are script kiddies, and bad script kiddies at that. It would be nice if all they did was go after the bad guys, the noble knights of the net, but that's never going to happen. The idea of anonymity is that they can do whatever they want because no-one will know. All lies of course, they couldn't remain anonymous if their lives depended on it. 'Sif a web based proxy is going to hide your trail..

The hackers could be caught, but there's lots of legal issues in the way. Every where you go on the net you leave a trail, but following that trail might be outside of the FBI's physical jurisdiction and thus outside of it's cyber jurisdiction as well. It would be a lot easier if vigilantes went after them because of that, but again, not going to happen.

Ever
Hey hey there are a few great hackers in there, though mostly average. Also is canada outside the FBI jursdiction?

You are both right and wrong. The thing about Anon is that ANYONE can take up the mantle and use their mantra to coordinate an attack. AnonOps the self described Hack-tivist group who everyone on here has pretty much become synonymous with the Anon name in general DID NOT take down the PSN. They said that they would not take down the PSN because they did not want to hurt the users who had nothing to do with Sony to get hurt by it. AnonOps we know for their attacks on Wikileaks, there taking over of the WBC download site, declaring internet war on Iran, etc. pretty much all the headlines we have about Anon on here are actually AnonOps. There cannot be a rouge group of Anon because there are already multiple branches of Anon who are completely different from eachother. There are those that are just downright BLACK hats(all the illegal stuff), The GREY hats(the morally grey areas like finding loopholes in internet security and telling the people about it), Then the WHITE hats (pretty much hackers for hire that do what grey hats do just they are asked to do it. AnonOps is the grey hats.

They probably could, they've caught paedophiles, would-be school shooters and animal abusers in the past. The real question is?

? do they want to?

Anonymous is too incompetent to find an actual hacker. The guys that hacked the PSN have hacked other databases as well. They are on a whole new spectrum of skill that makes anonymous look like a 80 year old woman who hasn't even used a computer.
I'm talking Hollywood here. This imagining would consist of an underdog hacker showing the rest of them what he's made of. Didn't expect so many people to take this thread so seriously. :p
